Re: Wendouree 2020 Mailer

After being very excited to receive my first Wendouree order form - I placed an order for a mixed 6 pack (4x Shiraz Mataro, 2x Cabernet Malbec). Unfortunately, today I received a lovely handwritten note saying that I would not be receiving any of my order. ..... I'll try again next year I guess. :(

I have been using WineArk at Newstead. I am happy with the service and for my relatively small collection the price is right.

Re: How has your cellar changed over time (and why or why not?)

I am very early into my wine collecting journey having started in 2016. I also have a young family (limited budget) and a small locker at Wine Ark (limited storage). Listed by producer with 5 bottles or more: 1. Henschke - 19 bottles (on their wine club) 2. Boireann - 12 bottles (favourite local win...

First time in Adelaide and Barossa Valley

If the border between QLD and SA is still open in September, I am planning a to visit Adelaide and the Barossa for the first time for a long weekend. I'll be visiting a mate, who happens to be a school teacher, so I'll need to entertain myself on the Friday. As a solo traveller I am thinking of join...

Re: Wendouree 2020 Mailer

How does the system work? I placed my very first Wendouree order requesting a mixed 6 pack (4 bottles of Shiraz Mataro and 2 bottles of Cabernet Malbec). At this stage of my life (early 30s with a young family) - spending more than $300 on wine at once is a big deal. Anyway, given that I have only o...

Re: Right, COVID-19, what are we drinking right now?

I went drop off a case at my locker at Wine Ark (Brisbane) over the weekend. It seems that many people are really bunkering down for some serious drinking. By my estimate, at least 30% of the lockers were vacant. This was compared with December 2019 when I last visited when there were only 2 or 3 va...

Re: TN: Tahbilk 1927 Vines Marsanne 2013

I have a 2012 and a 2013 vintage of this wine. The 2013 is definitely a darker shade of gold.

I can't comment on the taste as I am yet to open my 2013, nor will I for a few more years.

Re: A call to arms - Adelaide Hills Fires

I saw on the Henschke Facebook page that they have lost their Pinot Noir Vineyard - "The Alan" planted in 1983.

I'll be interested to see if they continue to make pinot noir sourced from other vineyards and continue to sell it under the lesser "Giles" Pinot Noir.

I am spending Christmas at my in-laws. They don't really drink much other than the odd XXXX gold or 1 or two glasses of plonk here and there. Re: Wine of the year 2019

I think for me it was a 2011 Rockford Rifle Range. Absolutely loved it, my wife enjoyed it too and she's more into Grenache than Cab Sauv. It was closely followed by a 2009 Tyrrell's 4 Acres Shiraz. The 2011 Rockford Rifle Range was my introduction to Rockford. My wife and I shared it for our first...

Re: Verticals - Comparative Tastings or Compulsive Behaviour?

Compulsive behaviour for me. My reason for collecting verticals is mostly financial and reflects both my stage of life being a young dad supporting a family on 1 income with my wife only working 2 days per week and also being quite early in my wine collecting - I want have a range of reds and whites...

Re: First time wine fridge buyer

My dad bought me a wine fridge as a moving in present for our first home - its a Hisense 34 bottle. It is very basic but does the job for what I need it for, namely wines to drink now and wines that are in transit to my storage locker at WineArk where I keep my long term collection. I believe it ret...

Re: What are the characteristics of a quaffer?

For me a quaffer means that its good quality and under $20 a bottle. It must be enjoyable and a Thursday or Friday night type of wine (I generally don't drink Sunday to Wednesday). Quality is still important ..... if quality is not there then it is plonk, not a quaffer. Last night I had a bottle of ...

Thanks Craig and Dave. I'll set a reminder to send them a letter later in the year.

As we have recently transitioned from being a dual income/no kids family to a 1.5 incomes 1 kid family - the wine budget is at its limit. I'll factor in a Wendouree six pack for next year's budget.

If you are travelling internationally any time soon - buy a bottle duty free. The same deal applied to the Grange which I think was a bit less in price. Only...
