I'll be interested in what you make of this. My view on a bottle from the previous vintage was:
  • 2016 Giuseppe Quintarelli Bianco Secco Veneto IGT - Italy, Veneto, Veneto IGT (19/06/2018)
Pale and bright straw colour, with a relatively complex nose of tropical fruit (inc. lemon), grass/nettles.

On the palate it's relatively soft and easy going, yet there is complexity and enough subtlety, together with some grip from what comes across as grape/apricot skin.

Whilst there are similarities with more modest wines, this comes across as a more modest wine made with great skill, like those fine trattorie that don't aspire to being restaurants.

Value as such is a little questionable, yet I could see me buying another bottle or two in the future.

6 pack of 2016 Epsilon BV Shiraz...a fair bit of talk about this one on another forum and rated very highly by Huon Hooke, not that other one who gives a hundred for everything.
Story goes that Dan Standish used to buy the fruit, and then worked with the winemaker, there are connections with the Kalleske's fruit is from an old vineyard in Greenock...so at $20 a bottle looks promising...will report.

I didn’t think the 2017 Chardonnay was out yet, or is that the Two Cells you are referring to?

It's not released to retail just yet, I bought some direct from the winemaker after visiting.

Fantastic wine as an aside.

Longmorn Distillers Choice Single Malt Whisky. Will have to get used to buying no aged stated SMWs. With the world and Chinese in particular hoovering up age stated SMW (and prices going north like Burgs etc) the supply is drying up forcing the distilleries to resort to blends of various ages to keep up. Sign of the times unfortunately. Looks like the market for age stated SMW will end up like Burgs.

At least I will get to try a $300 red at the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations in October.

I am very interested in the Bowen, have 2010, 12-16 of both reds, i just think for the coin and cellaring potential they are excellent.

A case of Rockford 2016 Rifle Range C/S at auction!
Tried this at the cellar door on release and thought a really lovely wine, points well for a very good 16 BP this year. I know a few punters here rave about the rifle range probably being the pick of the releases.

After paying freight and insurance nearly as much as the CD price...still don't have a car at the moment so hard to get up to the Barossa.
Assured of provenance so hopefully no harm done.

Cheers Craig

3* 2012 Bloom, Brash Higgins
1* 2015 Terre Nere Pre Phylloxera

Always a sucker for Vin Jaune and looking forward to trying one of the few Auz versions - hope it’s as good as Crittendens.

Tere was bought for me by a friend in Amsterdam - a WhatsApp video call direct from the shop late on Sat night saying ‘ i’m Buying this, do you want a bottle as well ?’ . No idea when i’ll Get it to Auz, but there is no rush. Last bottle we drank of this together was a magnum of 2004 in 2015 and it was still very young. price was €69 I think, but may have been €59 - we’ll sort it out once the ‘17 Wendouree is bought next month - I always get him half a case.

Trying to be good. Wendouree is on the horizon and a few others. I suspect July might be eye watering. At least for me.

4 * 15 Cuvee Francois, Huards (Romo)
3 * 17 Lakita, Pierre Menard ( Sauvignon Blanc)
3 * 17 Clos de Mailles, Pierre Menard(Chenin)
2 * 90 Vouvray Sec, Pinon ( Chenin)

I know, import duties are a fortune and it costs another fortune to fly a case here, but what the hell. This is coming from France and I shall see what happens..meant to be a break in the heat next week and the people who are sending it have done me well in the past. Lets see what happens....

Seem to be on a real buying spree

3 * 1991 Rarity, Terlan

Again, bought in Europe and will be brought back over sometime.

This is probably the ultimate Pinot Blanc, bottled in 2016 after 25 years on lees. Great house, and oddball wines like this should be applauded. Available here in Auz, for a hefty, but probably fair, price.

Is this Terlan / Cantina Terlano from Italy? I'm guessing it must be as Pinot Blanc is a speciality of theirs. I love the idea

What are the import duties levied when flying into Australia?

The duty free amount is 2.25 litres per person, so three bottles of wine or spirits. I assume that Australia still has in place the illogical rule of retro-charging duty on all bottles when the duty free limit is exceeded. Very bizarre if you ask me..

Yes it is. Apparently they have versions going back to 1979.

Last time i flew back I had 10 bottles and wine they just let me walk through. From earlier threads, there is no consistent policy though.

That's one way to play the odds and spread the costs, after all if one is prepared to pay the tax on 7 bottles it may as well be all ten. Do you know what you would have had to pay had they asked?

I'm thinking of the next time I come to Australia.
