Re: The specific characteristics of each type of wine...

Hi All It's certainly been a while since I was here and posting last. Many new names and few old timers still hanging in there, good to see. This topic peeked my interest as it has been a topic dear to my heart for nearly 15 years now, and it probably seems immodest but I will point you to my public...

Re: Auckland Offline - Esk Valley Terraces Vertical

I am soooo envious of this offline. I wish I could attend. I bought the 92 vintage when I was studying wine at EIT in 1994 for the princly sum of $60 per bottle, which at the time was a huge price compared to most others on the market. Between me and my brother, we have now collected every vintage s...

RSS - Really Simple Syndication Can feed new posts, or comments within a single post, seperately to a persons browser or email (Mac), or onto one of the many personal profile pages eg: Yahoo, AOL etc. This is really great stuff as I don't need to check back to umpteen websites to keep track of whats...

Re: That defining moment.....

More a series of defining moments for me that could possibly be termed an evolution. 1988 - worked for Cellarmasters in Sydney in the customer service dept until they started getting us to tell customers about the daily 'special' which was usually a few cases (possibly hundreds) of leftover wines fr...

If you have an iphone you can download Hallidays winery list as an App. It works pretty well.

2004 Cape Mentelle Shiraz Deep, dark, brooding. Intensely flavoured with dark plums, berries, and spicy pepper, cinnamon, cloves. Lovely cedary and vanilla oak with an elegance that betrays its' nearly 15% a/v. If their standard shiraz is this good, I wonder how fantastic the Wallcliffe will be? I ...

Is Australia missing out?

Having just read this article:-

http://www.cbn.co.za/dailynews/3911.html

I was left feeling that Australia is missing a great opportunity to promote it's wares, and unite with the new world in stuffing one up the French organisers of Vinexpo (I still haven't forgotten the refrigeration 'problem' at Vinexpo).

They say the devil is in the detail for a very good reason. It is quite often the detail that makes the difference between a good wine and a great wine - with that detail producing perhaps a 5% difference in quality. Unfortunately it is the 5% difference in detail that adds an unusually disproportio...

Thanks Brian, I fogot to check your site. It's just that I would have thought there would be some REALLY good bargains out there about now, hopefully around the 50% off bracket. I know the 20-30% rule well. I guess wine retail is probably not affected too much, as most people start eating at home an...

Wineries doing it tougher in the USA than Australia?

I was reading an article last week about a bunch of wine liquidation websites in the USA that are selling well known brands for 30-70% OFF RRP. These are NOT cleanskins or obscure brands but well known high priced brands that need clearing due to excess stock build up. One website in particulay list...

This is the Amadio's, specifically Daniell Amadio. His father Caj set up and used to own Chain of Ponds before selling it off. They own vineyards in the hills and I guess this is where they value add to the grapes. Make up your own mind as to the quality I guess.
