Re: Shiraz Riesling?

It's the phenolics in the white grapes (well their skins more specifically), that are sought - Viognier has these in spades when very ripe and this aids in colour extraction and a few other bits and pieces with Shiraz. The same goes with Riesling, and I know of a Margaret River winery that added som...

Paul et al I'm sorry to say but Adelaide is too tough to get done this year - simply too much to do before I head off to Melb / Sydney. The problem with doing all the work on the vines as well as trying to promote the wines. If I get across to Adelaide later in the year I'll put out a call for an of...

Melbourne is nearly booked out, and Sydney has a few spots left (even though there may be a major celebrity attending ). Please don't wait until the last minute if you are interested - you may miss out. Getting closer to securing an Adelaide event, if I can secure a minimum of 10 bookings I'll get e...

2002 was a difficult vintage in Margaret River (I'm assuming that this Sandalford is a MR wine, they have dabbled elsewhere). You may need to wait for a "window" for this wine which may be very frustrating, but possibly rewarding...

Now for a restaurant - suggestions? I'll have a look as well.

Paul Well I'd have to find a restaurant prepared to match the wines for us - but if there was a minimum of 10 I'd use up some flyer points and drop across for you all. Should still be under a $100, and as with Franco's Hoddles Creek night (which is an excellent night, went to the Perth evening), it ...

Blue Poles Wine Dinners

All Gavin has kindly allowed us to promote our dinners in Melbourne and Sydney to celebrate the upcoming release of the 2007 Blue Poles Allouran. The dinners provide everyone with the opportunity to taste the history of our vineyard in context with the spiritual home of our wines, France. I'll be th...

Mark G, there's plenty for you to see. I don't have it to ahnd, but the Tour edition of RIDE magazine lists all the days that will be broadcast by SBS1, and SBS2, and there's massive overlap. Actually, SBS web-site will have details - I think you'll be happy with what you'll see. Agree re: the Schl...

Or match the wine with the nationality of the Yellow Jersey rider? This could be very interesting, particularly in the early stages before the favourites really come into contention. With the prologue and then some flat stages early on it could be hard to find the required wine. Some of the early y...

An interesting question Sam, but you may have the wrong end of the stick when it comes to the resultant wine. The number of seeds within a wine grape varies with the flowering conditions - windy and uneven conditions you may only get 1-2 seeds per berry, but if everything is clear and easy every ber...

Disgraceful Wine Lists

For the past month or so I've been in Perth quite a bit for work as a consultant. One of the perks of the job is that often I'm taken out for boozey lunches and dinners with various company heavy weights and with my interest in wine I'm often asked to choose the plonk. The last trip up I was shouted...

Burrito Agree generally with brad, but with some specifics for you. Most whites came off very well due to a slow start to the season and little in the way of heat spikes ... some chardonnays picked in mid March will be excellent. The reds will be a mixed bunch as brad alluded to. Any reds picked pri...
