Blue Poles Wine Dinners

Post by Mark G »

All

Gavin has kindly allowed us to promote our dinners in Melbourne and Sydney to celebrate the upcoming release of the 2007 Blue Poles Allouran. The dinners provide everyone with the opportunity to taste the history of our vineyard in context with the spiritual home of our wines, France. I'll be there to host the nights and provide the answers to any questions that might pop into your heads :D

Our vineyard’s aim has always been to make wine with character, a sense of place, and able to be enjoyed with food and friends on any occasion – and with these objectives now being met, it seemed appropriate that we should offer a series of events to promote these ideals.

We have been very fortunate to have been able to secure bookings for these dinners at:

10 Sept 2009 - Melbourne, Moretons Brasserie – 166 Rathdowne St, Carlton

17 Sept 2009 - Sydney, fix st james – 111 Elizabeth St, Sydney

Both restaurants will be sitting down with the wines and pairing them with the most seasonal dishes that will not only match the weight and style of the wines but will enhance the flavours and make every course a special event. All food and wine is included for $95 per person.

There will be four courses prepared, and the wine pairings for the evening are as below:

Course 1: 2009 Blue Poles Viognier & 2007 Pascal Jolivet, Sancerre

Course 2: 2005/2006 Blue Poles Allouran & 2003 Canon de Brem, Canon Fronsac

Course 3: 2007 Blue Poles Allouran & 2005 Grand Pontet, St-Emilion

Course 4: 2007 Blue Poles Reserve Merlot & 2004 La Fleur de Bouard, Lalande de Pomerol

Both of the meals will be completed with a cheese board.

Numbers to this event are strictly limited – only 30 patrons are able to be comfortably seated at the venues and as such is our maximum on the two nights. Log onto our website at www.bluepolesvineyard.com.au and follow the links at "Wine Dinner".

We hope that you are able to make one of the nights - If you can't but would like to taste the wines prior to the meal, all will be available for tasting at the respective restaurants from 5pm.

Cheers

Mark G

ps As Gavin and Auswine is Adelaide based, if there are a core of folk interested in attending an event like this in the city of churches contact us and we'll see if it is possible. All the best.

Speaking on behalf of the impoverished wine lovers of SA, if there was a degustation matched with wines for < $100 per person, thI can vouch for at least 3 attendees!

Well I'd have to find a restaurant prepared to match the wines for us - but if there was a minimum of 10 I'd use up some flyer points and drop across for you all. Should still be under a $100, and as with Franco's Hoddles Creek night (which is an excellent night, went to the Perth evening), it isn't about making money but rather showing the quality of the wines.

Cheers

I'd be along to an Adelaide event for sure, friend of mine would likely be interested also.

Well that's five - we have a few Adelaideans on our mailing list I'll send a direct email to see if they would be interested.

Now for a restaurant - suggestions? I'll have a look as well.

Cheers

The Red Ochre held a degustation for Hardys recently (cost was $95, but unfortunately for me, the menu was 95% seafood and pork, which meant we couldn't go!)

Otherwise, my wishlist would be:
The Manse
The Melting Pot
Cianti Classico
Urban Bistro

however I'm not sure how they would go costs wise

Well I've been trawling through the options and apart from The Manse as the only French option ... it appears extremely expensive for what it is.

The only restaurant that I could find with my rudimentary knowledge of ADL was "Vincenzo's Cucina Vera" - looked good value, helpful staff from the sole phone call I made, good glassware (apparently), and in town. Could we get a quorum of Adelaideans up if I book a date in early September (1-3ish)?

I'll go further along the path if you're keen - email or PM if you don't post and I'll run "the numbers"

Cheers,

Melbourne is nearly booked out, and Sydney has a few spots left (even though there may be a major celebrity attending :D ). Please don't wait until the last minute if you are interested - you may miss out.

Getting closer to securing an Adelaide event, if I can secure a minimum of 10 bookings I'll get everything under way. Dates at this stage would be 2nd or 3rd Sept - contact me if interested.

Cheers

Hey Mark,
Just wondering if there is any more info on this event - our ability to attend will depend on the date.

Cheers,
P

Paul et al

I'm sorry to say but Adelaide is too tough to get done this year - simply too much to do before I head off to Melb / Sydney. The problem with doing all the work on the vines as well as trying to promote the wines.

If I get across to Adelaide later in the year I'll put out a call for an offline and work out from there. Sorry about that.

Sydney appears to be fully booked, but there are a few spots left in Melbourne. So any Victorians up for a night of excellent food and top wines, drop us a line.

cheers
