Nothing surprises me with Langtons. A few years ago I auctioned off a dozen bottles of wine, and thought I was going to get a certain amount of money when it sold at auction. When I got the cheque in the mail it was a fraction of what I was expecting. When I queried it I was told the buyer ruturned ...

Shiraz Expo
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone went to the Shiraz Expo a certain liquor chain (initials DM) held at various stores around Australia. If so, a list of wines that impressed or tating notes would be good. I did not manage to get there.

Campbells Bobbie Burns Shiraz
I have been a fan of Campbells Bobbie Burns Shiraz for a number of years, and feel that is the last 3-4 vintage it has been toned down significantly, now being a medium to full bodied wine rather than a big full-bodied wine. I had a 1996 last night and it was still big at 13 years old, with at least...

David Lole wrote The Richmond Grove Watervale Riesling 2001 displayed a lot of colour for a screwcapped wine, was reasonable, but, unfortunately, is in a problematic stage where some classy toast and honey character has latched onto weird nettly/unripe pineapple - something I find most unattractive ...

Mike Hawkins,
St Johns Road Julia Greenock Shiraz is the flagship wine of St Johns Road, a Barossa Valley winery. James Halliday gave this wine 94 points, and a drinking window up to 2030.

Hi Kwattro, Whilst I agree with some of the recommendations above (Barwang, Wynns Black Label, etc.) the issue is that Australia generally does shiraz far better than it does cabernet. There are two great regions for cabernet - Margaret River and Coonawarra. Shiraz does well in most places in Austra...

hotbmw, You really do not need to invest a lot of money to buy wine that will cellar well for a period of time. I have purchased many wines between $15-$20 that have cellared for a decade or so beautifully. Listed below are some great value buys ($15-$30) that will last a decade if stored in good co...

I had the opposite experience. I sent off a dozen bottles a few years ago to Langtan's, and my lot was sold for a certain amount. When the cheque came through it was well under what I expected. When I quried it i was told the purchaser was not happy with some of the bottles and returned the rest. Th...

The Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz has been very ordinary since the 1998 vintage, which will continue to drink beautifully for some time yet. I also think the Penfolds Bin wines are not as good as they used to be. They have been ordinary since Rosemount took over Southcorp, and have not improved und...

I have my wines stored under my parents' house. Their house is on stumps, and throughout the year the temperature is both cool and fairly constant. It is also dark. I have been drinking some of my 1998's recently, and yes whilst it was a great vintage, they are drinking beautifully, which indicates ...

I much prefer aged wine. I love the smooth mellow taste of an aged wine, not to mention that extra degree of complexity. Furthermore, a wine might taste disjointed or oaky when young, and then given time the wine integrates and does not have these problems. I am really enjoying drinking my aged wine...
