Re: The Colonial Estate Wines

Bad bottle, opened too soon after bottling, travel shock, just plain bad wine?........that was experiance over the Easter period with my first 10 Exile. Don't know but in comparison to the 08 and 09 which I've had a few bottles of each this wine had me feeling rightly or wrongly somewhat ripped off...

Re: The Colonial Estate Wines

Hi,
The 2010 Exile just out, has anyone bought and sampled it yet?
Also now there's the Exile cab/sav on offer as well. Is there any notes or review on that one?

Re: Tell us about your.... WINE COLLECTION.

I have around 370 bottles on database (missing a few in storage) for my 10 year collection. Putting good bottles in 2 60bottle fridges. SA dominates my collection @ 85% with: Barossa 56%; Hobbs, Torbreck, Two Hands, Greenock Creek the most common McLaren Vale @10%; Noon Clare Valley @ 10%; Kilikanoo...

Re: Penfolds 1999 St Henri Shiraz

don't think it's a good idea as you've let oxygen in & that'll start the oxidation process, plus decanting will speed it up so basically your bottle will only have hours to live..... or maybe 1 day or so. also do you have access to corking machine to recork it?? one idea is to get another bottle...

Re: Wine to keep to his 21st

Most of the Greenock Creek reds with the exception of the Cornerstone Grenache would have the legs to make it. They will be released in about 2-3 years and most you can pick up at sub $50. when most of their brew are nothing short of 17% alc, in theory they can be stored till kingdom comes.... or i...

Re: A tale of two wines

I find it as long as you don't boil those poor buggers & stored in OK environment, good quality wines like yours should hold up quite well as Aussie wines of shiraz, cab sav tend to be quite robust.

Re: Help a newbie (penfold 707)

If i'm collecting Cab Sav on 707 level, I'll go for Moss Wood, Margaret River..... flavour profile it beats 707 hands down imo..... & they can be cellared 20+ years.... my other choice is Henschke Cyril, Eden Valley Within Penfolds range, i'll get good vintages of 389 as this wine is not 'too' e...

1500 with wines on both sides + 700 corridor in middle may work but can be bit risky with all the glass around, i'll say 1000 corridor will make a big difference as in turning, sliding boxes around, bending/kneeing down etc....

a good vintage Clare riesling can be very interesting..... popped a 02 Grosset Polish Hill few months back, still very youthful but starting to smoothing out very nicely & showing its secondary nodes.... or take a look at the Artisans of Barossa, in most cases, their upper-mid range of shiraz/bl...

maybe by doing this exercise of upping the Laird price by 100% ($350-400 max imo), people may now see the Run Rig as acceptable purchase & the likes of The Factor & Descendant as 'cheap'.... In a single stroke, Dave revamped his whole range to another level.... as people may think 'so i can'...

How about Noon's Eclipse and Solaire? I believe they go the distance more than 10 years absolutely agree, not long ago popped a 03 Eclipse & it's still really really young, huge tannin & needed to sit most of the day to tone down to somewhat drinkable.... i think Eclipse can last 15+ years ...
