Re: Has anyone opened these?

I've had a few Islanders with some bottle variation, the good ones very nice. I'd have no hesitation opening now but you could leave it for two or three years.

First for the year. 4 x 2011 Rockford Rifle Range Cabs thru mail list. Bought 1 at the cellar door recently and I thought it was worth the 40 they're asking. My first official purchase as a member although I've bought from the CD a number of times (unofficially). Figured If i buy here and there I m...

Re: TN: 1997 Lengs & Cooter Watervale Riesling

I found a 01 on the (Melbourne) Swiss Club winelist last week - thought a bottle with 12 years age was worth trying and it was very very nice. I was interested to check Halliday - 86 points and drink by 05! Theoretically 8 years past its best and apparently a good honest wine (but no better) to star...

Re: Wine to keep to his 21st

As the parent of a 21 year old and 19 year old I'd caution that you may find they don't have much interest or perhaps the palate to appreciate a 21 year old wine. So I'd suggest that you modify the plan a little - by all means acquire the wines, cellar them....but drink them yourself by way of compe...

I can't see anything wrong with a "Auswine Special Offer" sticky. People who want to look at it can, those who don't, ignore it. I think we all appreciate the resources you commit to provide the forum and understand that you are not a charity. 1 opinion, Geoff

Aussie Grenache that has cellared well?

I'm a big fan of Grenache but I get nervous at about the five year mark. Has anyone had experience with an Aussie Grenache or Grenache-dominant blend that has benefited from 10+ years in the cellar?

Rufus Stone is a ripper (and closer to $10pb on a recent deal) but Stuart Wines Whitebox is good too - Halliday gave the 2006 94 points and it's about $17, Cheers, Geoff.

I tried the first of a half-dozen Neagles Rock 08 Cab Sav bought at the cellar-door on the weekend. Showed its youth and seven second breathing on night 1 - though still enjoyable, the second-half of the bottle the following night was very very nice.

I just opened a newly arrived 06 Rod and Spur. The cork had the faintest pick tinge as if it was only bottled last week but the wine itself....well I'm not sure - I think I'd better have another glass...and then I'll probably still be unsure and need a further sample....
