Re: Moss Wood Cabernet recommendations

Nice timing michel, I opened the 2001 last night! Was only a 750ml and sealed under screwcap. Drinking well now, with plenty of plush fruit on display. We opened it against the 2001 Jack Mann and the MW was the unanimous pick. About 5 or 6 years ago we lined up the MW, Jack Mann and Cullen all from ...

Hi Allan, Griff et al, Being from Perth I better jump in. I don’t seem to get out as much these days so I haven’t really uncovered any new gems of late but a good BYO is often on my radar. These are ones I remember in the last year. I quite like Japanese food so a few that we frequent inlcude: Nine ...

Re: Leeuwin Art Series Cabernet - Aussie Mouton?

TA - what about some of the other cabs in that tasting. What seemed good? What not? All in all a very good and interesting tasting. For most there the 2011 vintage was preferred as a whole but I loved the 2010s.HIgher high in the 2010s for me, even if 2011s crowd pleasers. Served in flights of 5. 2...

Re: Leeuwin Art Series Cabernet - Aussie Mouton?

NIce timing on the Leeuwin cabernet drinking Jamie. I was at a WA cabernet tasting this week. 2010 vs 2011 vintages. A lot of usual players there; Cullen, Moss Wood, Woodlands, Cape Mentelle, Houghton Gladstones and Jack Mann (2011 only), Vasse Felix Heytesbury, Cherubino (2011), Cloudburst (2011) a...

Re: The Barolo / Barbaresco / Nebbiolo thread

Luke Lambert Nebbiolo 2012 Tastes very Yarra Valley, if that's not a silly thing to day, has a sappy 'pinosity' about it however the tannin structure is definitely Nebbiolo. The best Australian Nebbiolo I have tried to date, have two more bottles which I will definitely leave alone for another 5+ y...

Re: June 2015 Purchases

I'm not sure what the problems are with 2010 Monprivato? I tried at cellar door and I felt it on the mark but couldn't pick up on the hype- whereas 2004 I felt I could. Monprivato gives a brief snapshot before needing a long sleep. I could see new to Barolo and all the recent hype dismissing the wi...

Re: Peel Estate Shiraz 2006

I really liked the 2006 vintage of this Peel too Allan. I remember having it at their Shiraz tasting for the 2006 vintage and it stood up really well in good company (if my memory is correct I think I had the Best's Thomsom family as my pick). 2006 was a cooler(?) vintage for WA so I guess Peel are ...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

After some virtuous abstinence we elected to open a Charles Melton Sparkling Shiraz with chinese. Disgorged 2005. Not as old as the one we had courtesy of TomA a few years back which opened my eyes to the ability for this wine to age. Lovely cherry red with a bouquet of anise, red berries and tar. ...

I thought about a new thread, but thought I'd post here anyway, since it's evolved into a bit of a critics discussion... Hi Felix et al, I do have a few CNY festivities this week and I realise that I am a little naive to any wine ideals that might be appropriate. Is there anything we should be bringing along that would be appropriate (apart from good booze of course!!)? If this is year of the sheep should we be drinki...

WA Chardonnays are the ones that also often really excite me. Just had a 2007 Picardy Chardonnay (under screw cap) - it's rich, complex and has a good length - absolutely loved it. Think it's often worth to keep these WA Chardonnays for a while and not to drink them too young. Mario Picardy under s...

Hacker, I'm in the same boat. I do enjoy a half bottle, both for the variety and if there nothing left over it means there is a greater chance of an AFD the following day. Most recent purchase was Curly Flat 2010 Chard. Not unreasonable price and freight free from cellar door. A few of the Fevre Cha...

Monghead,

I was speaking to griff about this the other night.

The first Petaluma Coonawarra red is one of the better wines that vintage. I believe it was a cab shiraz blend in that first year or so.

I've only had it once, a few years ago now, it drank a treat.
