Re: Grand Cru Wine Fridges

Thanks for that input redstuff - that does not sound ideal... Is the ambient temperature particularly high around your fridge? I don't think I could accept a 22 degree temp in there... Asa Room temp in the wine room gets to about 27 to 30 C some days but those temperatures get relaxed as nights in ...

Re: Grand Cru Wine Fridges

I purchased two Grand Cru 320s in early 2016. During summer here in Canberra only the bottom shelf can maintain the set temperature. For example, mine are set to 13 C and there is a temperature gradient that goes up to the top shelf which can get to 22 C. This year wasn't as hot so only got to about...

Re: Fridge Regas

How old is the cabinet? Might be worth giving them a call and seeing what they are prepared to do if it is out of the normal warranty. You could bring up the old "reasonable expected lifetime" warranty and they may help in some way. My 160 bottle vintec developed a crack in the inside back...

If you have a vacuum sealer you could make a small bag, seal the repour in it and it should keep indefinitely.

Re: Screw caps

I have smelled pure TCA in crystalline form. TCA does indeed have an odour, the same odour of cork tainted wine. Irrespective of how I perceived the chemical it still smells like a wet dog. Do you get much of a rush when you snorted it? :D Cheers Michael I think I'm really sensitive to TCA now beca...

Re: Screw caps

I have to say, from my point of view, when the discussion about cork versus screwcap descends into arcane suppositions that Surah 83:22 to 25 22 - Verily, the pious and righteous will be in Paradise. 23 - On thrones looking at all things . 24 - You will recognize in their faces the brightness of de...

Re: Screw caps

That's correct...SC would never develop the same aged profiles that we're used to. That's my assertion anyways.. It isn't that the wine doesn't age..it does, just not in the way we're normally used to it. If indeed screwcapped wines will not age in the same way as wines sealed under cork, then perh...

Tigger - I tried a couple of 5V USB fans hooked into a USB hub in various spots in the cabinet but didn't have much luck. Where did you position it? Right at the back of the top?

Re: Wine cabinet / fridge

I have two Grand Cru 320 fridges which are essentially the same as the 640D. The only problem is the top shelves can get a little warm in summer. When the cabinet is set to 14 C, the bottom shelf is maintained at 14 but the top shelf can go as high as 20 C with the middle shelves somewhere in betwee...

Re: Is there a way to get rid of brett?

Rather than a cork, there is a proven way to remove TCA with a certain type of plastic bag / wrap. A quick online check comes back with Polyethylene as the specific compound of plastic required, and one of the UK guys reckoned leaving it 2 days in the fridge (the bag in contact with the wine) was p...

Re: Likely heat damage to wine in cellar? (Adelaide heatwave

Certainly our grandparents and parents stored wine at a constant 25 degrees and kept it going for a decade or two. The wines weren't perfect but they could still usually be enjoyed. Typically they had more stewed fruit flavours than those cellared at cooler temperatures. One of the first documents ...

I have had three bottles of the 99 Vat 1 in the space of a month. The first was TCA tainted. Second was exactly how you described and the 3rd was oxidised and completely fell apart within 30 minutes. Gotta love those corks. That's a real pity, where did you get them from, online auction or original...

A couple of weeks ago I opened a 99 Vat 1 with quite pronounced TCA. The glad-wrap trick worked to some extent but took away a fair bit of the volatiles. The bottle ended up going down the sink Why wouldn't you send the bottle back to Tyrrells? At least call them. You would get another bottle of Va...
