Rockford Mailer
Hi all
I've only been on the Rockford mailing list for two years so no BP on my mailing list yet, but I was wondering if I was missing out on the 2011 or the 2012?
Also has anyone tried the 2012 Rod and Spur as that is what I am thinking of getting to keep my ordering current on the promise of BP in the (hopefully not too distant) future.
TIA
Michael

Michael,
The '12 Rod and Spur is quite good and certainly worth buying. But I believe the '12 Rifle Range to be an excellent cellaring proposition and definitely the pick of the two.
Cheers

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?
Re: Rockford Mailer
I had to look at my calendar - thinking it was October and I had slept thru winter. This thread is four months too early
We have to live thru the Wendouree thread yet......
Tried the Rod and Spur at cellar door and picked some up. Very nice.

I wish they did a winter release of BP so you don't have to worry about transport.

Has anyone suggested that to them?

I asked them about this a few months ago and they came back with; We are aware of the effect heat can have on wine so we never ship anything out if it is extremely hot but we can also hang onto your order if you request it.
Out of interest, would anyone share how long it took them to become a stonewaller? I'd imagine that it's a combination of time, attrition and consistent orders. As much as I'd love to be able to bag some BPS, we've been loving their RR, MS, R&S and tawny so waiting doesn't bother us Besides, we can only afford so much so it's been two modest orders per year so far.
Re: Rockford Mailer
I think it was about 8 years for me. Every year I have visited the cellar door and have purchased a range of their wines.

You'll hate me Brett, but only 2 years for me back in 2005. Visited the cellar door on our honeymoon in 2004 and 18 months later I got my letter and badge. I think someone had a kind word for me though.

I must have been lucky, as I was buying Rockford from the late '80's (not sure what got my interest in them way back then - maybe it was good wine) and one day the copper disk turned up in the mail. Bingo! Stonewaller.

About two years for me. Had bought nothing. That's changed since though!

Re: Rockford Mailer
Does anyone know what their vintage charts are like and how their museum releases go? They currently have '06 Riesling and am tempted to try it but would prefer to go for a Rifle Range. Any idea how often the RR's pop up and whether it's at a particular time of year?
Re: Rockford Mailer
Got the mailer yesterday.
BP $61 bottle. Bit of a jump but still worth it

Re: Rockford Mailer
I think it is a $2 increase. Not too bad considering the excellent vintage and the deserved reputation of the wine
I have ordered six each of the 2012 BP and the 2013 Rifle Range.

Re: Rockford Mailer
I think everyone has been eagerly anticipating the 2012 BP release. On a positive note for non-Stonewallers, Ben indicated it was an above average yielding vintage. As such, there should be opportunity to buy come 1 March.

Re: Rockford Mailer
Was digging out some old receipts the other day, '88 BP $14, 90 BP $16 and the last 5 vintages have all been in the $50s... so yes not cheap, but not like other donkeys who charge 2-3 times for 3rd or middle rung Barossa Shiraz.
Big couple of weeks with a Pennies pre-release, 2012 St Henri might tempt me, but did it get more points than the 2010??
And then apart from Rockford and Wendouree, the other greatest little mailer in the world arrived yesterday...Noons.
If we are talking about very modest price increases, reminds me a bit of Bowen and Zema...maybe it goes up a buck a vintage...have been buying Noons for 10 vintages now, still sub $30 for the top red and at $12 for a LC Cab shiraz, could have another Metala on my hands.
Apart from the inevitable pre Xmas rush of 'specials' (I keep hearing from all sorts of sources from both inside and outside the industry) that there are warehouses full of gear...these will be the last purchases for 2015.
Cheers

Re: Rockford Mailer
I'll get 6 BP and 6 SS this year.
With a CD visit perhaps the SVS wines though I don't like the styles over the last few years.

Does anyone know how long before the Rifle Range is available online to non-stonewallers?

Not sure about online, but a phone call to Rockford should secure you some. It is advertised for sale to non Stonewallers.

Are there any reviews floating around for the '12 BP and '13 RR?

I've not seen this wine before, is it a stonewaller only? Has anyone had any?
Re: Rockford Mailer
Been around for yonks. I don't think it's a Stonewaller wine. Ages really well.
