Re: TN: 1998 Tollana TR222 Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

It was a good wine and glad it is still holding ... like the 1998 Pewsey Vale Cab Sauv - wonder if anyone still has any/has had one recently?

Re: April 2011 - what have you been buying?

Three bottle sample pack from Blue Poles Three bottle sample pack from Marius (haven't tries either sampler yet but great initiative & value from these producers) Two Sicilian wines today - don't have details handy (mid $30 each) Will probably get some (affordable) riesling and pinot or shiraz s...

Re: 2000 -2009 Greatest SA Vintage??

Also went for 2004 because in my relatively limited experience so far I generally prefer 2004 Coonawarra reds over 2005 + 2006 (but like I said, have had many). Also 2005 was very good for top reds/reds that are drunk early + excellent for many whites from the Adelaide Hills, Clare + Eden ... maybe ...

Are they released this weekend? If it is a good vintage I might also use my child born in 2009 to buy some! ... "it's for the children, not me" :)

Re: Help a newbie (penfold 707)

If it is the richness that you are after/find appealing then good cabernet from the Barossa and McLaren Vale should suit. Wines like Wirra Wirra Angelus, Langmeil Jackaman's Cabernet, Elderton Ashmead, Rockford etc ... I'd steer you away from Coonawarra + Margaret River Cabs which are more likely to...

Canberra Region Wines - availability?

Hi All I'll be in Canberra for work overnight and unfortunately no time to visit any vineyards in the area. Are there any retailers that stock a broad selection of local wines? ie those rarely seen or stocked by retailers outside the region (and obviously not stocked by Gavin!) Thanks Tos ps any sug...

Re: 2004 Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz

Agree with TiggerK - just into the drinking window. Has integrated but still primary. The cool climate spice that Sean describes is very appealing and can understand why you'd want to drink a few of them now. I've only got 2 left from an initial 6 so will keep them for a couple of years.

Re: Current Release of Margan "White Labels"

Last White Label Shiraz I had was the 2004 - lovely wine but unfortunately (in a sense) mine were drunk young ... were about $40 back then so pretty steep price increase unless there is another 'non-aged' release 07 or 09 around the $40 mark?

Also given the size of the cork/neck of the bottle, 6L bottles aren't the easiest to open or decant!

Re: Need Help With 6 Litre Bottle 1996 Yalumba Signature

I agree with Ian's suggestions ... it would be possible but let some one else have the "thrill" of a 6L bottle if it isn't for you/can't find the crowd & occasion. I've got a 3 litre 2001 Signature (2001v) which despite being a bit young, I'll open this May or June when we are away for...

Re: Oldies & maybe goodies?

In my opinion, open them at the work drinks if you've got some decent glassware. If people enjoy them then great ... if not you drink them anyway (assuming they are worth drinking).

Don't be precious - share it around.

Re Grange, 1951 was the first (experimental) vintage. 1952 was the first commercially released vintage.

As is increasingly the way for me, quite a few purchases of 1-3 bottles rather than 6 packs (or a dozen). Surprisingly more shiraz + chardonnay than i would have expected: 1 x Masi Camporfiorin Ripasso 2004 1 x Pontet Canet 2004 1 x Villa Terlina Gradale Barbera d’Asti 2004 3 x Faiveley Mercu...

Unfortunately my recent experience with the 1994 isn't as good as some others. For me it was a very good wine that is now drying out/the oak is taking over a little too much and was better younger (maybe less than ideal cellaring compared to the 'cracker' bottles mentioned by others?). The under-app...

I opened one late last year (Oct?) and thought it was a very pleasant wine. Holding up well - would have guessed from the Hunter due to the leathery character you mention and the weight of the wine (medium bodied). Didn't get the oak you saw. Paid $20 at a retailer about 5 or 6 years ago. Definitely...

Cam's list is excellent - i'd be very happy if my local Thai had a list half as good as that! Riesling is the wine i drink most often with Thai. A forward style from the Clare such as the 07 Wolf Blass Gold or Petaluma work better than the more minerally Eden Valley wines. Loosen's Dr L is a relativ...

Agreed on the riper fruit call but - with limited experience in guessing a wine's future - i'd still say it'll easily do 10years+. I also think with a decant for an hour or two the wine is very enjoyable now. Campbell gave a window of 2013-2022 & Jeremy Oliver his usual whacky drinking window (2...

Mike Press Pinot Noir 2004 As many have mentioned, extremely good value - at this price point i probably expect a simple, fault free wine without any varietal character (which this wine has).
