Haven't been through there for 18 months, but the value stuff was prestige champers (though not as much value as the previous year) and some of the better spirits (eg CC 12yr old, high end scotch etc.). The Inniskillin which was so much cheaper there a few years back is now available here at compara...

Okay, the rack is on it's way to a new home.

I hope it serves it's new master as well as it served me for so long.

Cheers

Perhaps instead of the Valley, you might consider the Hills? A bit more driving, and not as many places to visit, but The Loose Box is considered on of the top restaurants in Perth (well, near Perth ;) ) and it has chalets on site.

Perhaps The Vines Resort? Not big on cosy atmosphere, but plenty of facilities, and close to the wineries.
Or an on-site van (or chalet?) at the caravan park opposite Dear Friends restaurant ;)

Torbreck Viognier/Marsanne/Rousanne 2002 Opened last night. A touch sour then, but not in a really bad way, more like cleansing. Nothing noteworthy when cold, a bit broad and buttery once warmed to room temp. Tonight, more approachable - toffee apple, the expected apricot more like an apricot danis...

I recently tried a Woodlands Chloe vs a couple of Bannockburns at a great boozy dinner (notes are here somewhere...).
I found the Chloe a bit too oaky and buttery for my tastes, but it was quite popular. You may like to try it, as it may be what you are looking for.

I have been drinking a few more interesting wines lately, some worth talking about. A couple of weeks ago we celebrated the birth of my sister's baby by cracking the Krug MV I picked up duty free a year ago. Very impressive, and I can see what the fuss is all about. Don't you think that a steak fanatic would find it at least interesting if they actually had the chance to go and see all of the special treatment Waygu cattle receive? Not necessarily a visit to the abattoir, but to the farmard. And aren't ranch "working holidays" popular over there? Don'...

Wine By Brad, Semillion Sauvignon Blanc, 2005 Prevelly, Margaret River, WA First impression was of intense tropical grass clippings. POW! Perrin Reserve CdR 2003

Cotes du Rhone from Perrin et Fils of Chateau Beaucastel fame. Close to their entry level wine. I do have one bottle of Beaucastel 2000, but I have no intention of opening that any time soon.
