Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Cracked a bottle of 2012 Standish the Relic. Deep, almost black in the glass. Full and rich which needs to be paired with meat or fuller bodied fare. Good, but not quite hitting the heights.

2018 Savaterre Chardonnay . Wow. Lovely, full bodied delicious head turning Chardy. I don't believe chardonnay can get much better than this. Different to Margaret River icons, but all the better for it, as you would hope for. 2015 Yarra Yering Dry red 1 . Nice, but not super nice. Not disappointin...

I never met Cameron, but I enjoyed his contribution to all things vinuous. Life is fleeting and we all need to remember our family, friends and our love of wine and community, which is how I see this forum.

2016 Sami-Odi HD -the one with the coloured circles on the label - Quite full bodied with yummy dark fruit and no indication of secondary maturation as yet. I'm hanging on to the rest of my stash for a few years at least. I was rummaging around my boxes of wine and found a pack of Baby Tui, so I ma...

I’ve always struggled to appreciate the wines of Selosse and his disciples. That said, many with better palates than mine love them. Glad you’re one of them! Hi Mike, please don't think I have a better palate than you, or anyone else for that matter. My wife has a better palate than me. I just thin...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Afew over the last couple of days. 2010 Faiveley Cazetiers : Secondary influences prevail as you would expect of a wine 14 years of age. Long, broad and rich. A powerful palate with the expected red fruits giving way to more earthy influences mixed with a mineral, almost salty finish. Good to great....

2024 Rockford Mailer

Hi everyone, the 2024 edition of the Rockford Rag just landed. The 2021 BP is priced at $90 which most probably fair considering it's strong reputation and secondary pricing. The 2021 RR is $65, also fair. However, I find myself questioning whether to partake this year or not. There is an awful lot ...

What do people think of 2020 and 2021? I believe 2022 and 2023 are getting some love but not really enough out there for convincing opinions.
As others say the region is an embarrassment of riches. It’s hard to find anything from most producers that isn’t top notch.

1. Chateau La Conseillante 2. Domaine Fourrier 3. Vieux Chateau Certan 4. Domaine Denis Mortet 5. Chateau Montrose I'd be confident there are lots of Cullens, Wynns and Wendouree there too, but I'm too lazy to dig them out. Will eventually send them off to auction when I can get off my bum and resc...

Every now and then someone poses this question, and here we are again. Over a 5 - 10 year period winery representations rise and fall, including mine. Re: So…how do you approach decanting?

I am still lost about whether to decant or not, but my overwhelming observation from reading tasting notes is “tasted better on the second night”, or even the third night. From my own experiences this applies more so to Cabernets and blends than Shiraz and Pinots. But to me it is still a mystical ar...

Also some 2012 Jack Mann Apologies I meant 2021, although I wouldn’t mind the former year as well. Ian I was eyeing off the Tyrrells 2023 chardie as well, just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I reckon it’s a level above ‘quaffer’ though. I am also eyeing off some of the Aldi quaffers highlighted on...

Re: 2024 Wendouree Mailer

If it gets a big score it will be in high demand. Maybe like Giaconda? Luckily I was alerted to Wendouree via a Huon Hook article in the SMH back in 1993. If I recall correctly Hook advised to write as opposed to phone - nothing has changed - which I duly did and have bought from the 1990 vintage a...

Excited to report my full request was offered. I will look forward to the esteemed scribes on TWF comparing the virtues of the two Shiraz’s. W...

I got my Sydney based daughter to fill in and return my form. Phew! Who knows how allocations are allocated. I’m really interested in the old vine Shiraz. Sounds like the 1990 old vine Shiraz, I’m sure it will be marvellous, especially as Tony Brady has seen such quality from the fruit in 2022. My w...

Re: 2024 Wendouree Mailer

I don’t know about this. I have been buying via the offer from the 1990 vintage. That is 32 years constantly supporting Wendouree and their fabulous wines. I would be disappointed to hear there might be a hierarchy system that is to the detriment of some longer term buyers. I don’t believe it.

I’ve ordered a six pack this year, and happy to do so as certain producers rise above vintage variation. Callum and the Bradys being two Stirling examples. Not an issue if all wines will be drunk by yourself but something to consider if you pride yourself with perfect labels. I am modifying my cellar so...

LEAS may well be better than Giaconda; they are on a par with cost but not availability. But not far behind them are a tonne of others, and on a QPR both are outdone. Dappled, Pierro and a host of others are biting at their heels. I will repeat my previous post again because we were reminded of it w...

My cellar one.com perusal has given me much joy in finding great wines at a very fair price. On the winefront people give tips about special deals, like spend $300 and get 20% off, on right now. I took a punt on a NZ wine named Saving Grace from the South Island. Just brilliant wine around $15.
