Re: May 2025 purchases

I got caught up with the siren song of the $35 deal on cellarone for Gladstones. I really didn’t need it as I already have six, but was too good a deal to miss.

Hmmm..... I wrote a long diatribe on this but got logged out. But in summary though from Beechworth Savaterre, Fighting Gully Smiths Vineyard, Schmolzer and Brown Brunnen and Sentio.
Other regions Voyager, Pierro and anything else with the GinGin clone. And Vat 47.

12 x 2020 Woodlands Cab Franc Merlot. One of my favourite wines from all of Margaret River. Drinking superbly now and is too good to bother cellaring for long. Hunt some out for under $30.

Re: Red wine from the fridge

as a rule, Aussies drink their whites too cold and their reds too warm. I so much agree. Most restaurants also serve red wines way too warm, and I sometimes ask for an ice bucket. I get some weird looks occasionally but it works. Meanwhile I will also ask for some ice or use a couple of cubes to co...

As we seem to be talking cult wines many have been mentioned but the four that I can't let go of are (in order of preference) Agricola, Sami-Odi, closely followed by Standish and Tyrrell's with their Sacred sites and Vat 9 and 47. We really blessed for quality and choice in Australia. I would also m...

Cracked a bottle of 2012 Standish the Relic. Deep, almost black in the glass. Full and rich which needs to be paired with meat or fuller bodied fare. Good, but not quite hitting the heights.

Different to Margaret River icons, but all the better for it, as you would hope for. 2015 Yarra Yering Dry red 1 . Nice, but not super nice. Not disappointin...

Afew over the last couple of days. 2010 Faiveley Cazetiers : Secondary influences prevail as you would expect of a wine 14 years of age. Long, broad and rich. A powerful palate with the expected red fruits giving way to more earthy influences mixed with a mineral, almost salty finish. Good to great....

2024 Rockford Mailer

Hi everyone, the 2024 edition of the Rockford Rag just landed. The 2021 BP is priced at $90 which most probably fair considering it's strong reputation and secondary pricing. The 2021 RR is $65, also fair. However, I find myself questioning whether to partake this year or not. There is an awful lot ...

What do people think of 2020 and 2021? I believe 2022 and 2023 are getting some love but not really enough out there for convincing opinions.
As others say the region is an embarrassment of riches. It’s hard to find anything from most producers that isn’t top notch.

I am still lost about whether to decant or not, but my overwhelming observation from reading tasting notes is “tasted better on the second night”, or even the third night. From my own experiences this applies more so to Cabernets and blends than Shiraz and Pinots. But to me it is still a mystical ar...
