Re: Vintage 2014

Ian thank you so much for your information.
In hot Brisbane (a world away from real wine country) really appreciate nitty gritty stuff that you bring.

Thank you

What's your Wine Mismatch?

Well here's my latest.......

Staying at a profile Sydney Harbour hotel in Walsh Bay.
Drinks out on the terrace with million $$ views. Sipping on a $12 glass of their 'best' Shiraz by the glass (Chapel Hill '12 Parsons Nose) available in Schott Zwiesel glassware.

I think that's a mismatch!

Re: Vintage Port

My latest bottle of VP was a 1973 Kaiser Stuhl. I swear it sat in the top of our pantry for 7 to 8 months+ after opening. Pulled the cork poured. May not visit it again for months on end etc. The last glass poured [into my sherry glass] was as good as the first. Another was a few years back i worked...

Re: Vintage Port

Living in Brisbane VP is tough at times but I generally always have one of some description opened & 'available' when I need it. I find that quality doesn't suffer even though it could well be opened for months on end. I'm no expert on this but I thought VP unlike Fortified Shiraz can go some di...

Re: wines for more than 15 yrs

Not quite 15 years old but last night I had a 1999 Sevenhill Shiraz Touriga Malbec . It was simply a lovely, medium-weight aged red. Enough fruit for interest, but plenty of secondary and tertiary characters such as old camphor chest, tobacco and forest floor. Went really well with a simple tomato ...

Re: The Great '96 vs The Great '98 Vintage

I have my 96 St Henri at Langtons now. Really? Then the Penfold's Rewards of Patience tasting (6th Edition) is wrong to suggest that the '96 St Henri is a great vintage and should last till 2025. Should all these top wines from '96 be going downhill? I don't believe it. Campbell Mattinson's top win...

Completely agree with what you said about the poll, I think 4 years on we are seeing the 96's dropping away and the 98's are still powering along as predicted Regards Dazz Agree Dazz.....cannot seem to stumble upon any decent '96's lately. Thought I would highlight the '99 as it seems to be very go...

25th Anniversary Dinner last night. 1996 Bin 95 Penfolds Grange This was my 2nd and last '96. Cork and ullage sound. Bright colour for a 17 yo wine. Aged dark fruit and tarry nose. Palate certainly didn't blow me away. Medium bodied with some nicer secondary elements. The length really was disappoin...
