October 2013 Purchases

Post by Duncan Disorderly »

I'll do the honours this month:

6 x 2011 Dr Loosen Bernkastler Lay Riesling Kabinett
3 x 2011 Dr Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett
3 x 2009 Ernst Triebaumer Blaufrankisch
3 x 2009 Tardieu-Laurent Cotes du Rhone Cuvée Speciale

After a few years of trying I'm coming around to German riesling, as long as there is enough acidity to balance the sweetness. It also doesn't hurt that the GF has a fondness for sweeter wines.

Having spent most of the year drinking Barossa Valley shiraz and grenache, I have decided to spread my wings a bit...

2012 Walnut Block Sauvignon Blanc
2010 Ashbrook Estate Chardonnay
2013 Pewsey Vale Reisling
2012 Vavasour Pinot Gris
2011 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer
2012 Tellurian Viognier
2010 Domaine Pichot Coteau de la Biche Vouvray
2007 Tyrrell's Stevens Semillon
2010 Main Divide Pinot Noir
2010 Darling Park Pinot Noir
2012 Massena Primitivo
2010 Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico
2010 La Spinetta Langhe Nebbiolo
2010 First Drop Pintor Tempranillo
2004 Marques d Elciego Reserva Rioja
2010 Heggies Merlot
2011 Aruma Malbec
2011 Arboleda Cabernet Sauvignon

...that should keep me busy for a while. I am a little reluctant about the nebiollo and the chianti, but what's the worst that could happen. I have found it a bit difficult to find a reliable source of international wine (and barely anything from the US). I mainly find selected pickings from various vendors. I suppose that must be the main way to go about it...

6 x 2010 Henschke Mt Edelstone
6 x 2004 Taittinger Comtes
6 x 2005 Taittinger Comtes

With a trip to Champagne later in the month, I'm trying to show some restraint over the next 2 weeks - but the ads for 2011 d'Yquem are quite tempting....

Michael

I've opened one already. It is very good. I put it close in quality to the '12 Avatar in which I'm sure you've tried.
Avatar more silky & refined. Lino to me a bit more of a chewy & complex GSM.
Buy some Michael you'll enjoy them....

6x Majella Cabernet 2010 ... "98 Brisbane Show" points apparently, whatever that means, but a very good price for Singapore.

Hi Tony

When I asked them for tasting notes they said they didn't have one but that the normal retail was $45. I haven't seen the reserve advertised before and assume its excess wine from either the Hanisch or the Heysen.....Its a stunning drop after an hour or two of decanting. If anyone knows more I'd like to hear. Be interested what u think of it.
cheers
