It's cheap at Langtons currently at $88 plus commission but if it gets 100pts it will be worth double that so well worth accumulating prior to the points release later this year if you're a player in the secondary market.

Hi Grand Cru If your friend still has any Bowen Estate Ampelon I would love to purchase a few bottles from him. Could you let me know either way. Appreciated David David, I bought the only six he had and have thoroughly enjoyed three so far. I can see how it is a wine that polarises opinion as disp...

They gave pre release purchasers (retailers) a choice of cork or screw for the Block 42 and Bin ??A.

My information has it that screwcap was the overwhelming choice. Now wouldn't the purchasers of the above wines be the same guys that buy Grange?

I've picked up a few of the various Marius wines around the traps and every bottle has been thoroughly enjoyable. Here's yet another small/tiny maker really doing great things. If anyone hasn't tried Marius wines, do yourself a big favour and grab a bottle of two, they are a treat at very moderate p...

Anyway Santa, you could certainly tempt me with either or both kinds of XXXX, the weather is so cold here in Melbourne that I can't get my reds warmed up enough to enjoy!

Noons tasting & dinner

I notice that Wickman's Wine Auction are hosting a Noons vertical tasting of both Reserve Shiraz and Reserve Cabernet and a dinner accompanied by several good vintages of Eclipse. Any of the Adelaide based guys, and there's heaps of you I believe, going to this as I'd love to see some TNs or thoughts.

I reckon most of these sales will be a joke.

I just want to know how I can get my stuff that's worth $30 into their auction and get $70!

Auctions of all types never cease to amaze me, it's where human greed over rides common sense.

Could be a few more as you say. The sensible owners took advantage of the Parker created markets but maintained a sensibly priced and well serviced domestic market too. An all your eggs in one basket strategy fails almost every time. Look forward to seeing thoughts on the 2005 Vikings as some of the...

1969 was a very poor year most places, so I don't hold up much hope of getting something great that I wouldn't have to donate a body organ to get hold of. If I'm really lucky I may strike a decent VP or maybe something from the Hunter, but I don't like my chances. Cheers, Ian Oh oh, 1969, that is a...

I've had this wine three times in the past six weeks and can only agree with previous posters, this is exceptionally good wine and an absolute bargain around the $40 mark.

Those who haven't tried it should grab a bottle and see for themselves, too good to miss.

I opened a magnum of the 1994 black label cabernet in January. It was excellent. Graham 1994 Wynns Black has been a sleeper that is only now starting to blossom and showing no sign of tiredness, will be very long lived. 2002 Balmoral is crap

Thought I'd succumb and slip into Dans and grab a bottle. Didn't like it at all, nose was unattractive green/herbal/dirty offensive characters that no amount of airing could disipate, palate was ugly, dirty almost burnt bitumen character and felt hot in the mouth. Left it overnight to see if time wo...

Re: Which bargain Penfold?

Here in NZ, Foodtown supermarket have the current vintage Penfolds Bins (28, 128, 138, 407) at a very good price at the moment (about 35% off) 35% off what, a mythical RRP? I think the 35% off is just another marketing ploy to prompt people to buy. Tell everyone that Bin 28 has a $30RRP then give 3...

Cabernet longevity

This was a Shadrach comment on the Adelaide Offline post that I think is worthy of it's own discussion. With Shadrach being WOTN, perhaps I should have been there! Interesting that a 13 yo and a 17yo Cabernet were probably the best wines of the night. I have always contended that Cabernet is the var...

Not sure from your post if you only want magnums at $150 or less or bottles at $150 or less.

2005 Yarra Yerings are supposedly the best ever made and I can vouch for longevity of this label.

They go on sale this Saturday 5th May, magnums $160.

Drought effect on wine prices/supply

Sounds like you had a very interesting tasting Ian. I'm a long time fan of Jasper Hill and can only think that you had a sub standard bottle of the 2005 as I've drunk several and found them to be delicious. I'm tempted to open another this weekend so I can compare notes.
