Re: Best Cabernet Sauvignon under $15

Tahbilk Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 I agree with the critics. My cheap wine of the year. It tastes of Cabernet, it tastes of the Nagambie Lakes region, and it tastes of Tahbilk – it’s instantly recognisable as all three. Tahbilk Cabernet has been on a roll of late but this release is fabu...

Re: 2004 Penfolds Grange on special

Hungus,

Now let's think. How many $448 wines do you regularly drink? Do you really think one bottle of Grange is worth say 6 bottles of Clonakilla Shiraz viognier/ Giaconda Warner; 5 bottles of Cullen Cabernet Merlot?
Or a cracker Burgundy...
Buy Grange if you think so,

Surprise, surprise... No. On current form Crawford River Riesling is Australia's finest iteration of Riesling. It ages; it's beautiful; it's lean, minerally and long. It is outstanding. I have not had Grosset 1984, but ... if I was selecting Landmark Australia 2010 Crawford River gets my pick ahead ...

If a 4 year old plays with an 8 year old a football will end up in a tree. To get the football down one throws another football up the tree, so that one gets down and the other gets stuck higher up. Colin, Trimbach's Cuvee Frederic Emile is a top tier riesling. For Grosset Polish Hill to be considered in the same league is a very flattering asessment. In Australia the Cuvee Frederic Emile would be at least double the price of the Grosset, so value wise I would stock up on the Alsatian riesling,...

Hi Colin, The 2005 is far more linear, tightly coiled and more searing in intensity, length and lime citrus profile. It is slatey and minerally. It is a stupendous wine. If you can get your hands on the 2002 that would be a more interesting comparison. But 2005 v 2006, knock out win to the 2005. BTW...

2004 Chianti Tasting with surcharge

More than 25 people attended a chianti tasting at $10 per head, refundable apparently upon purchase of 2 bottles, but advertised as upon purchase. The retail cost of hosting the tasting was $376, The LUC would suggest less than $248. Tasting: a profit, before anything else. And you have herded knowi...

Clonakilla is the new Grange: but sexy, slinky and knowing. It is a five star buy. The best modern shiraz style in Australia. A veritable new classic. Armani in a glass. No downside.

Giaconda is probably the most compelling wine producer in the country. The chardonnay is stunning; the shiraz dazzling; the cabernet very under rated and the pinot, well to be fair, variable (and maybe best forgotten). All things being considered this is a great marque. An Australian Grand Cru. I di...

This is actually quite good compared to the 2003 McClay Rd Pinot I can only imagine the score you'd give it. IMO, neither of these wines should ever have been released. Mugs like me paid $25 for these as well - just as well it was only a few tasters. I have a long memory though. Tony, why self-flag...

It is a second label. These are modest wines. Quaffers. There is a Heathcote shiraz and a Mornignton Peninsula Chardonnay worthy of interest. They are honest fair wines. They are not spectacular. They retail at about $A16 and that is what they are worth.
