Hunter wine tours out of Sydney?

I have a co-worker, who is from England, that has friends/parents in town for a few days. She wants to take them to the Hunter on a day 'wine tour' from Sydney. To complicate matters her father does not drink - so she hopes for a tour that might include more than just wineries (eg: history/local cra...

RAS wine show..

Just wondering if any of the Sydney forumites are planning to attend this event (m)? I was not happy with the show last year, as there were limits on the number of medal winning wines one could taste (eg: 3 only gold medal wines could be tasted) - But I'm assured there are no such limitations this y...

Hi Dave, Any chance of some feedback on your D'Arrys visit? Thanks Sure. For those not familiar with the place, the restaurant is part of a complex that also houses the tasting room. The building itself is on a hill, providing a very pleasant view into the valley (ie: big view of vineyards). Restau...

McLaren Vale restaurant suggestions ?

Hi All, I'm a Sydney local who has ended up in Adelaide for the day. The wife is ok with a quick trip to McLaren Vale for the afternoon, if I take her somewhere 'nice' for lunch. It has been years since I was last there. In those days, the Salopian Inn was very good, but that may have changed. Can a...

Rockford BP 2002

I took 'her indoors' out to a BYO restaurant for an 'occasion' dinner recently. I selected a Rockford BP 2002 as our 'red' for the night from our (now small, post children) cellar. I was more than a little disappointed. On opening, and first taste it was dull, with not much fruit and not much length...

Re: Transporting wines on aircraft with the new security mea

I had wished to take a couple of fine red wines to friends in France, as cabin luggage, before the new security measures which only allow 100 mls of liquid. I presume I could now pack them in my suitcases but I am concerned in case of the wine leaking out (with the pressure differential in the hold...

How wrong can you be?

Just back from the show. Boy - has the format changed!!! The 'new' show allows you only to taste 3 gold medal wines, 6 silvers and 8 bronze. You may taste any of the others (non-medal wines), but this year you must not touch the wine, but must wait for some of the hired help to wander your way and p...

RAS wine show (Sydney)

Hi all, Is anyone else going to the RAS wine show in Sydney tomorrow? Having been a 'starter' for this for some years now, and given that in the past the tasting time was limited to about 2 - 2.5 hours, I developed a 'technique' of working the show that meant tasting the trophy winners (in their own...

Howto: Sending wine to someone in the US

Hi All,

I want to send a friend in Denver a nice bottle of bubbles, but would rather not ship from Australia. Does anyone know of any online merchant based in the area (or who services that area)? Thanks.

Morgan Simpson wines..

Hi, I've just received the 'summer mailer' from Morgan Simpson (McLaren Vale), and am wondering if anyone has tried anything recent from this (small?) producer. In the past I have been a fan of their Shiraz, and 'Row42 Cab Sav.' The prices still look good, but with the Xmas competition (ie: other ma...

Wine Australia & Boutique Wine Festival 'clash' in Sydne

Hi all, I've noticed a number of people indicating they will attend Wine Australia in Sydney, yet no takers (that I've seen) for the Boutique Wine Festival. I note with interest that the dates of these shows clash (at least in Sydney): Wine Australia 2006 - Sydney 14 - 17 July Boutique Wine Festival...

Hi All, I've lurked here for quite some time, and really appreciate the wealth (and breadth!) of the postings. On the 'divine tastings' front, I've decided to go to the 'red fizz' session in Sydney. I'm hoping to get to look at a wide variety of wines of this style. At present, the Rockford's Black ...
