Wine Australia & Boutique Wine Festival 'clash' in Sydne

Hi all,

I've noticed a number of people indicating they will attend Wine Australia in Sydney, yet no takers (that I've seen) for the Boutique Wine Festival. I note with interest that the dates of these shows clash (at least in Sydney):

Wine Australia 2006 - Sydney 14 - 17 July
Boutique Wine Festival - Sydney 14 - 16 July

The blurb for the 2nd show (http://www.boutiquewines.com.au/index.htm) says they will have "over 400 wines from 38 regions". With the anticipated crowds at Wine Australia, I was thinking of heading to the other show to avoid them!

Is there reason to think that Wine Australia will be such a better show that this might be a mistake? (I guess by 'better' I mean more variety, better service ..etc)

Ill be at the boutique show on the saturday session starting 11am.

Figured I was more likely to have the time to talk to some of the winemakers at length there

Plonk Oz will have close to 400 wineries with who knows how many thousands of wines to choose from; given that Plonk Oz was booked ages ago, it's incredible that there is another clashing event at the same time.

Wine Australia is BIG. If you haven't been before, I'd go there. In fact I am going there. I am very surprised both events are on the same weekend.

Seppelt opened their 100 year old port at Wine Australia last time and for me that's worth the entrance price alone. Ask at the stand for the time as they only do it at limited times and sort of keep it under the counter. Pays to ask so you can be in the right place at the right time.

I guess in the end, look at the exhibitors list for each event and decide what you want to taste. But Wine Australia really is the premier wine event in Australia and I've only missed the one that was in Melbourne since it started.

Hmmm, I guess they won't be at the boutique wine thingy either.

Having looked at the web site this is indeed going to be big.. More like HUGE to be honest. As i'm a Wine Australia virgin so to speak anyone out there care to name any stand out wineries that shouldn't be missed. With the 1000's of wines on offer and only 1 day there i reckon i'm going to have to be pretty selective

Its difficult to know before you get there. Best way is to talk to people and ask them what they have tasted that is a stand out.

Action, good question, where to start. I'll be there too and definately checking out 10 Mins by Tractor, Stefano Lubiana, Picardy, Pierro and Bass Philip (keen to check out his gamay, and the obvious....) and maybe the Kilikanoon Oracle (if they have it).
