Aussie cabernet to line up against serious Bordeaux
Hi all I have a dinner in the US with a few people next month. They are all into their wines and so far the 3 others have confirmed that they will be bringing a Haut-Brion, Mouton and Cheval-Blanc to dinner (all good vintages from the 80s/90s). They have asked that I bring a good Australian red. Wit...

Re: The Barolo / Barbaresco / Nebbiolo thread
Nice one Ozzie. How did the group find Ca' del Baio? I have found it is very popular and well received blind- suggesting they are clever and gentle modernists. Do you have a specific Piedmont wine group? The group focuses solely on Italian wines, with a different theme each time. Barolo vs. Barbare...

I'd give it at least 8 hours. A 96 I opened at Christmas was double decanted for 24 hours, then fully decanted 2 hours before serving. Showed really well.

All
With apologies (I have made a habit of this in the last 2 offlines) I am going to have to pull out from this one since I'll be down in Melbourne with work once again.
Apologies - I'm disappointed to be missing out on the fantastic lineup above.

I have a 1990 Bin 389 that I think would qualify. I would be keen, particularly if it ended up being Fix at James.

Lovely pinot. I've gone through at least 6 over various dinner parties and put another 6 in the cellar. If you get it at the right price you can't go wrong.

Will post full notes on last nights Sydney offline, but had the 04 Flax last night. I'd put it in the top 10 Sussie shiraz's that I've had.

FWIW there is a small but dedicated Sydney offline group of about 6 guys that have formed on the Red Bigot Forum that are meeting this Thursday night 28th at Rocket Restaurant in Chatswood at 6pm. I'm sure we would be happy for a few more to join us, as the whole idea is to meet up and share wine! ...

Wines taken to offline dinners
Presumably nobody has ever tried Dr Rudi's approach to taking wine to offline dinners? Classic. I thought this is a good video for a Friday.

South African red wines
Hi all, I should start by saying that I am not very familiar with South African wines or winemaking processes in South Africa. I have been trying quite a few South African reds recently (vintages from 2002 to 2009) and am finding that regardless of the variety (I have tried a number of cabernet sauv...

Re: Duty free at Hong Kong airport for wine. Whats it like?
I was in Singapore recently and went to their duty free section hoping to get rid of my excess Singapore dollars on wine purchases. I was not impressed. The prices were not competitive – most Australian wines were more expensive than I could source them here (for example, Penfolds St Henri 20...

I just got back from the Sydney Penfolds re-corking clinic with one bottle of 1990 and one bottle of 1996 St Henri. Outstanding setup at the Intercontinental, with a number of people sitting in the waiting room with bottles of Grange and St Henri with white capsules - my bottles were absolute youngs...

Sorry, you're right. I didn't read the title of this thread properly. That was for the cabernet. The 2010 BL Shiraz got 91+ from Mattinson.

Yarra Valley recommendations
Could anyone recommend a few wineries in the Yarra Valley for pinot drinkers? I have one afternoon on Saturday the 28th and, besides Yering Station, would like to fit in one or two quality wineries if I can.
Any recommendations would be great.

Yering Station Pinot Noir 2006: Garnet red/ruby. Lively berries with undertones of oak, brown spice and prosciutto (for me). Present but fine tannins. Went down nicely with a Mediterranean tasting plate.

Re: Napa Valley Recommendations
I would try go to Cliff Lede (good zinfandels and some very nice cabernet sauvignon's). Each vineyard is named after the owners' favourite rock song - I walked away with some 2008 Lonely Wizard Cabernet Sauvignon which was top notch, albeit expensive. Paraduxx was also well worth a visit. Tastings a...
