Re: Weekend Drinkies 10/11 April???

Had a 2005 Old Block, smashing really......beautiful medium weighted balance. The 2005 Godolphin we had at the same time was an absolute monster in comparison, though still lovely and with many years left in the tank. Old Block for wine of the BBQ.

Perhaps it's just a matter of definition here. It's no pinot and it's very much a shiraz but certainly nothing like the full blown styles you see these days. Everything in place, well composed, no sledgehammer of fruit and oak. I'd definitely stick by elegant. I would agree, primarily the comparati...

Of course, I would never be so bold (or stupid) as to tell you or try to correct you on what you have tasted or experienced, just that my experience is definitely different. In fact, I had a 96 389 last weekend and the 96 St Henri was miles (and I mean miles) more loaded and fuller than the 389. I ...

Re: I had a glass of Yellowtail shiraz......

Oh dear, that was practically undrinkable! No, it WAS undrinkable! I haven't tasted such terrible wine in my life, like horrible grape cordial. And no, not my choice, it was offered and I was curious. Simply the worst wine in the entire world. How the hell do they sell it? You have to be a little c...

Re: Wine Sites on your mobile

I am thinking of getting a subscription to Jeremy Oliver's site. Does anybody know if it renders well on a phone. I have an XHMTL browser on the phone, but some sites these days are so heavy or use so much AJAX that they just won't render properly. It would be great to have this info with me wherev...

2002 Mcwilliams Old Paddock & Old Hill Shiraz. Quite nice, sweet but slightly aged and pruney fruits, a twang of acid on the finish that blew off, tannins largely melted away. Enjoyed it.

2005 Godolphin vs 1996 Bin 389

To celebrate meeting my little nephew for the first time, I stumped up an '05 Godolphin for the dinner. My sister suggested she bring a '96 Bin 389 from her cellar (cupboard) as a comparison. Both decanted for an hour or so. Points only for comparison. '05 Godolphin - Poured a deep purple. Some mute...

Will the Grange improve? I note the 2001 was a bit maligned initially but developed spectacularly over the following 12 months. Wish I'd grabbed a couple when they were on special at VC.

As for 2004 RWT, I'll have to grab a bottle and check it out, sounds fantastic.

$50(ish).....one bottle only.....what will it be?

I pose this in a "stuck on a deserted island" style. One bottle around $50; after that's finished the rest of your life is spent drinking coconut milk and going insane, so it better be enjoyable. For drinking now, or cellaring in a dark cave for your rescue 15 yrs later, doesn't matter. I ...

Had the '02 Reserve the other day and liked it. It was a tad disjointed and 'stewed' straight out of the bottle, but that blew off after an hour in the glass and the blackfruit, acid and tannin came nicely into balance. A decent decant is a good idea.

Unique and enjoyable wine IMO.

There are several batches of the 2004 Quartage which are quite different from each other - likewise a couple of samples of one batch we tried (straight after the 3 Trophy wins at the Adelaide Wine Show) were identical to your TN; very oaky and lacking fruit. These were under cork, while subsequent ...

1997 BVE E&E Black Pepper Shiraz - Probably right in its window; medium bodied, jammy stewed redfruit upfront and tons of oak, resolved tannins and not much acid. Nice wine, but a tad too oaky for my palate. 90 1998 Penfolds St Henri Shiraz - Still a baby; lush, soft fruit, silken texture with ...
