This single vineyard wine was purchased at cellar door in late 2016. From the title, you can guess where the vineyard is or when it was planted.
Deep purple in colour. Lots of dark fruits on the nose, plums, blueberries, blackberries. There's some earthiness and leather along with some vanilla. The palate is textural, with the fruit heading into conserve territory, This perfectly complements the chewy tannins, which contribute to the texture. Acid keeps some freshness in the wine, but takes a back seat.
The wine is medium- to full-bodied, but is not overly heavy. There's a reasonably long finish.
One of the reasons I opened this was because, when I visited McLaren Vale in 2016 (http://forum.auswine.com.au/viewtopic.php?f ... le#p135571), the impression I got from cellar door staff was that 2013 was a wetter vintage that would "be earlier drinking". I'm happy with the 2013's I have tried to date, and see no reason that they shouldn't hold on for 2-5 years at least. Any thoughts on the 2013 vintage in MV?
Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

The Clare Valley must have had a good vintage, either that or Annie's Lane was an exception in making a very nice Copper Trail Shiraz. I tasted a bottle of it a few years ago and "ran" back to the store to pick some more. Brilliant wine.

G'day
My last bottle of this wine, and interesting to see whether my 2-5 year prediction held up. It did.
Purple red in colour. The nose still holds the dark fruits seen 5 years ago, and these have held up well. There's still vanilla and leather, and some signs of further development in the form of savoury notes, almost like pencil shavings. The palate remains reasonably balanced, with the developed fruits supported by moderately grippy tannins and sufficient acid. Good length.
Maybe just starting to decine in comparison to 5 yearsago, and not as chewy as previously - it's thinned out a little. Still sound and tasty, but I probably should have opened it 2-3 years ago for maximum enjoyment.
Cheers
