TN: Coriole Shiraz 2013 Willunga 1920

Post by Waiters Friend »

This single vineyard wine was purchased at cellar door in late 2016. From the title, you can guess where the vineyard is or when it was planted.

Deep purple in colour. Lots of dark fruits on the nose, plums, blueberries, blackberries. There's some earthiness and leather along with some vanilla. The palate is textural, with the fruit heading into conserve territory, This perfectly complements the chewy tannins, which contribute to the texture. Acid keeps some freshness in the wine, but takes a back seat.

The wine is medium- to full-bodied, but is not overly heavy. There's a reasonably long finish.

One of the reasons I opened this was because, when I visited McLaren Vale in 2016 (http://forum.auswine.com.au/viewtopic.php?f ... le#p135571), the impression I got from cellar door staff was that 2013 was a wetter vintage that would "be earlier drinking". I'm happy with the 2013's I have tried to date, and see no reason that they shouldn't hold on for 2-5 years at least. Any thoughts on the 2013 vintage in MV?

Cheers
Allan

The Clare Valley must have had a good vintage, either that or Annie's Lane was an exception in making a very nice Copper Trail Shiraz. I tasted a bottle of it a few years ago and "ran" back to the store to pick some more. Brilliant wine.
