Got some Cristal 2015 and Dom Perignon 2013 coming, so I'm pretty excited!

I don't buy much red these days - have way too much already!

I got caught up with the siren song of the $35 deal on cellarone for Gladstones. I really didn’t need it as I already have six, but was too good a deal to miss.

I really rate the 13s that have a decent whack of Chardonnay in them. Much better than their 2012 brethren.

I’m an intentional FIFO worker and love a bottle watching the footy . This is $20 USD which is extraordinary value considering what I buy abroad! Took two bottles away with me and just had my knuckles slapped by German customs. No booze allowed for crew.

I had great fun the other month going through Berlin with very unfriendly and inefficient border security... (maybe somewhat deliberate for UK passport holders in this brave post Brexit world)...

As to wine purchases, some fun Aussies on discount:
2x John's Blend 2019
1x Margaretes Shiraz 2019
1x Thomas Hardy Cabernet 2014
1x Wild Duck Sparkling NV
1x JC's Own Ferine Grenache 2020 ... anyone familiar with this producer? its a new one for me.

Trip to the Barossa yielded these:

2 x 2019 Rockford Dry Country Grenache
2 x 2021 Rockford Rod and Spur
2 x Rockford Black Shiraz
3 x 2023 Eperosa 1903 Krondorf Grenache
3 x 2022 Eperosa Magnolia 1950 Grenache
4 x 2021 Sons of Eden Romulus Shiraz
4 x 2021 Sons of Eden Remus Shiraz
4 x 2022 Sons of Eden Eurus Cabernet
3 x 2023 Standish Lamella
6 x 2024 Oria-Riff Old Vine Grenache (Callum Powell's recommendation)

I can't believe how dry it is in the Barossa. I've never seen Tanunda Pines Golf Course looking so desperately in need of water, it's a dust bowl. Such a shame as it's normally in great condition. Most winemakers I spoke to are very happy with the quality of the '25 vintage, just not so happy with the quantity. If they don't get rain this winter, the '26 vintage will be a real struggle for those without access to water.

Cheers
Ian
If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

Yes, we bought some grapes from the Valley, well, technically Eden Valley. Many growers without a water supply, really struggled, plus some early Frost problems. Luckily our grower had full access to water, and so the crop/grapes were in excellent condition.

So, you are very accurate, with water really good quality grapes, without water, quite problematic perhaps.

We were in the Barossa on the Anzac Day weekend for one of our MWS blokes weekends. I described it as “parched”.

Yes indeed, as dry as a chip

YTD 30mm, long term avage from Jan to May 175mm

Perhaps Albo can grow a pair and give AUKUS the flick and put in some decent infrastructure to drought proof the country.
A metre of rain in 72 hours in NSW (double SA's yearly total), largely running out to sea, when capturing a bit of it might be a good idea.

Of course there would be no votes in that would there?

Yes, and if the leaders of the US, China, India and Europe grew a pair and focussed on the climate catastrophe we wouldn't have to pump water over mountain ranges etc.
Oh, and what about Cubby Station, with it's 460 GL dams. When they start pumping out of the river, it actually flows backwards!

Staying on topic;
6 x 2020 Villa Maria McDiarmid Chardonnay ( Gisbourne NZ )
6 x 2022 McDiarmid Chardonnay

Couldn't believe the quality for around $50/bot.

Yes probably needed to be apolitical... doesn't matter if it was Albo or Spud, something should have been done decades ago...the enormous tidal flows of the Ord, the trillions of litres that run out to sea all up and down the east coast.

Can't account for the other dictators, but surely we can do something here.
Anyway my 2c... don't get me started with those entitled arseholes at Cubby station and the like, taking billions of gigalitres to grow cotton and rice in Australia... whatever next

Have a good weekend

The greatest naval build-up in history, which we recently had a taste of with a CCP surface action group circumnavigating Australia, and you want to get rid of AUKUS?

Get rid of the Yanks, and opt for armed neutrality, we will need to spend 3x on defence versus riding our security off the back of the US. Too many Aussies have their hands out to gov for an expensive defence option.

Oh back on track. No wine for a few weeks now. Just cracked a Gladstones 2020 Cab in Detroit. $35 is a bargain for a very solid Cabernet. It’s been around the world in a suitcase the last week, drinking well out of a water glass in a hotel room on the interstate
