A couple of cases of Petaluma 2017 Riesling

I had this yesterday. Blew me away and was stunning. Never have I had a Riesling so 'complete' in its release.
It had everything. Weight, length, acid, slight sweetness, fruit a plenty. 2017 Rieslings just keeps delivering. My only concern would be how it will age. It almost felt like it had age in it already it was that good. Not sure the acid will hold up to aging though. But that silky mouthfeel... Can't get over that weight.

May I know which 2017 bottling are you referring to? Project Co., Cane Cut or Hanlin Hill?

Must admit, have not been overly enamored with the project Co offerings, 2012 was OK. Hanlin Hill over 20 plus years has been a great wine...long may it continue.

Yep Hanlin,

However I can see this style wont be for everyone. As Mike mentioned, its made in a fuller, riper and rounder style than other CV Rizza.
So if you like really acidic young Rieslings, then maybe its not for you.

I really enjoyed it because it is different....... but still question how well it will age. The label has the history to suggest it will be fine for
medium - long term, but not sure. Would love others inputs.

This may end up being a 'May 2018 purchases' post, but I'm mulling over the 2017 Bordeaux EP at the moment. Given the quality of the vintage, and the amount of good-quality Bordeaux I already have, I'd probably pass up on it, were it not for the fact that 2017 is the year my son was born. It'll give me something to drink on his 18th Birthday.

I had pegged Haut Batailley as a definite possibility, as it's a wine I've really enjoyed previously, but blimey, that's an eye-popping price. Honestly, it's stuff like that which gives Bordeaux a bad name. Solid-but-unspectacular wine (if critic scores are anything to go by), in a solid-but-unspectacular year, 5th growth, modest pricing history, and they decide to 'reposition the brand'? That's pretty bad timing. Will be looking elsewhere, I think.

I'll probably pick up some Sauternes on the secondary market in a couple of years, but I'll be looking out for other releases at this point - Batailley, Cantemerle (which I always think over-delivers), Grand Puy Lacoste, Leoville Barton / Poyferre all on the list. Maybe Pontet Canet if the pricing is sensible (stop laughing at the back!).

I am up to a total collection of about 7 cases. However, my wife is due with our first child in August so I expect that my rate of collecting/cellaring could decrease for a while with an increased focus on immediate consumption :p

Two pieces of advice:

1) Buy a newspaper, and read it cover to cover. You won't get another chance for the next 12 years.

2) You don't know what a hangover really is until you have children. Enjoy the time you have left!

Both pieces of advice I was given, and both have proven to be 100% accurate.

Ha...newspapers, what luxury!!
Actually my alcohol consumption went off the charts, having a child that only slept 40 minutes a time for the first 18 months of life, I drank more than ever, had people take pity on me , "you looooooooooooooooooooooooook so tired", and yes I was, but peering through a constant haze...and between nappies, feeding time at the zoo, bath, bedtime story with a huge bloody glass of...anything, we made it.
He's turned out pretty well...and I survived!

after reading this I decided to try a bottle, being a big fan of Hanlin Hill
I don't usually drink them young but these posts made me very curious
That is one tidy wine, drinking so well right now
