A group of five us managed to access cellar tastings at Cecile Tremblay and Mugneret-Gibourg in 2014. We were unanimous in preferring the wines (all in barrel - would have been 2013 vintage) of Cecile Tremblay and as a result I have not bought the Mugneret-Gibourg wines. The wines tasted in barrel at Mugneret-Gibourg were good and the sisters are welcoming hosts. They have a mouldy cellar off to the side of the tasting cellar which is not used but if I recall the winemaker sister Marie-Christine saying it dated from the 1700s! Another case of Swings and Roundabouts 2016 Margaret River Chardonnay and a case of Leconfield 2015 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon sent directly to Sydney for Xmas consumption. Both to be shared with a friend there. Certainly beats lugging it all the way from Adelaide.

Im a bit the same. Never had one, and they dont come up that often, so a bit hard to find. Thankfully these look in pristine condition. try any Mugneret-Gibourg wine from 2002 and you might change your mind. They absolutely hit a home run that vintage, incredible wines. For whatever reason, not as good since then. I have never had a Riesling like this...the delicacy and finesse is just incredible, it almost blows over the tongue like a gentle breeze. virtually no acid at the this stage, just primary fruit and layers of it. Will be a very very long lived version..beautiful and this is what makes this variety so exciting, the differences in these wines!

Sean, its a really odd description I admit, but the wine is so fine at present that it just glides over the palate, its absolutely effortless to drink, yet the complexity is already there. What is missing is the laser like acidity of so many other CV and EV Rieslings, potentially making it such an easy and mellow experience right now. Craig, Swirler not Sean here. Sounds just like my style of riesling.Acid should be definitely there, but it shouldn't dominate IMO.
