Alluded to on the Barolo/Barbaresco thread, we brought a *few* wines back, in truth the most we've brought back on the plane. In part it gives a rebalance from when we drove over and came back with a lot of Barolo and Barbaresco. The aim this time was to focus mostly on stuff I can't get in the UK, or at least can't get easily, but a few more accessible wines crept in.
2014 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
2011 Travaglini Gattinara Riserva
2010 Ferrando Carema - Etichetta Bianca
2014 G B Burlotto Barbera d'Alba
2013 Balbiano Freisa di Chiera "Vigna villa della Regina"
2015 Migliavacca Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese
2007 Forteto della Luja Loazzolo Vendemmia Tardiva "Piasa Rischei" (half)
2011 Accornero Barbera del Monferrato "Bricco Battista"
2013 Occhipinti Il Frappato
2014 G B Burlotto Langhe Freisa
2015 Hauner Hiera (a lovely modestly priced 'volcanic' red we discovered in Bologna last year)
2015 Rovelotti Vespolina "Ronco al Maso" (usually a supporting grape to Nebbiolo in Ghemme, but one that can shine on its own)
1974 Pio Cesare Barbera d'Alba (might have been a big mistake but the colour is good)
1958 Bertelletti Gattinara 'Castello di Lozzolo' (again a gamble, but again the colour is good and the old wines from here can surprise)
2014 Boveri Timorasso Derthona "Filari di Timorasso"
2016 Saracco Moscato d'Asti (half - not difficult to find, but it's rare to find Moscato d'Asti in halves except for Chiarlo's Nivole. More interesting though, was that it was sealed with a screwcap, something rare in most Italian regions and still prohibited by some DOCs and DOCGs including Barolo & Barbaresco. Maybe the penny is finally dropping?)
A very eclectic bunch of wines, but that was the intention. The Bartolo Mascarello Barolo was left for others.
