I've had his wines just a few times.
Had the 2009 Vosne Romanee Les Champs Perdrix (Village) last Friday, very pretty and elegent. In the last 6 month or so I’ve had the 2010 Les Cazetiers, 2005 and 2011 Clos de Beze. They have all had red fruit and have been on the elegant side.
Surprisingly they were open and ready to go. I like this style.

Yes, I tasted a good few 2008s at wineries when it and 2007/6 were the 'current' vintages. I can't recall a disappointing one and a good number impressed. Let the hype continue elsewhere and enjoy the backfill opportunities

Alluded to on the Barolo/Barbaresco thread, we brought a *few* wines back, in truth the most we've brought back on the plane. In part it gives a rebalance from when we drove over and came back with a lot of Barolo and Barbaresco. The aim this time was to focus mostly on stuff I can't get in the UK, or at least can't get easily, but a few more accessible wines crept in.

2016 Saracco Moscato d'Asti (half - not difficult to find, but it's rare to find Moscato d'Asti in halves except for Chiarlo's Nivole. More interesting though, was that it was sealed with a screwcap, something rare in most Italian regions and still prohibited by some DOCs and DOCGs including Barolo & Barbaresco. Maybe the penny is finally dropping?)

2015 Hauner Hiera (a lovely modestly priced 'volcanic' red we discovered in Bologna last year)


A very eclectic bunch of wines, but that was the intention. The Bartolo Mascarello Barolo was left for others.

The Hauner whites are even better than the Reds.
Freisa is an interesting grape. Related to nebbiolo and a bit lighter and more raspberry but can still be quite rustic. Maybe akin to Pinot Meunier relationship to Noir.

Love the selection and look forward all the tasting notes.

I went through Paso Robles a few years back. What a wonderful wine country, very different to the excessively commercialised areas such as Napa Valley and Santa Barbara. Whilst it is predominantly Rhone varieties, one of my favourite vineyards was a place Windward which make excellent Pinot. We still have the two glasses we purchased as part of the tasting fee. Well worth a visit if possible.

The two Freisa wines might make an interesting comparison, with the wine shop owner enthusing about the vigna villa della regina when I brought it to the counter. I also got one of those 'surprised but delighted' reactions when I plonked the Vespolina on the counter in another shop. I suspect it's not popular amongst the Torinese let alone visiting stranieri. However I like it a lot, and a Vespolina (€6 IIRC) from a lovely little producer in Ghemme (Mirù) was wonderful last year with 7 years on the clock. The other bottle will be opened this year, and I hope we'll make a trip back again soon to buy some more and visit them again (on both occasions it's been a wonderful experience).
