Im not really enjoying the older wines ive found. Like some fruit to be present. Quite tanic aswel.

Red Wne: Chateau Gruaud Larose '66. Had to stand and clap for its longevity, balance and drinkability. Simply gorgeous. The '86 Grange and '96 Wendouree Cab Malbec had a decent, enjoyable slugfest at the Adelaide Offline too.

White Wine: Nothing really wowed me (note to self: drink better white wine in '17) but a Laurent Tribut Chablis Montmains '12 was pretty smart as I recall.

Sparkling: A Renardat Fache sparkling "pink" was something new and enjoyable for '16.

Best white was a 1999 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne from my cellar, consumed with a winemaker friend who produced a bottle of 2006 DRC Romanee St Vivant. It was my last bottle of 1999 Coche CC and was considerably more developed than the penultimate bottle from 2 years before but still in great condition for chardonnay with this bottle age. Honourable mentions to a 2011 Coche-Dury Meursault Genevrieres and a 2012 Roulot Meursault Clos des Boucheres in restaurants during a trip to France in October.

Consistent with the observations above about the excellence of Rousseau, best red was a 2012 Rousseau Chambertin at the Burgundy Lounge in Lyon on the trip mentioned above. It hadn't closed down at all and was extraordinary. Price was friendly too. For reds for the rest of the year, daylight second to this wine.

Had this only a month ago, cracker of a wine, absolutely loved it, had a 66 mouton on the same night, it didnt look out of place.

Sorry, didn't take notes. We drank it as a birth year wine for my oldest boy on his Birthday. Quite a stunning wine. I like the aged characters as the fruit fades, but each to their own. This bottle had been perfectly cellared which probably helped. Thanks Jamie!!

I still have 12 x Henschke Mt Edelstone 1994. No issues with drinking over the next 10 years + considering they were bought from cellar door and stored in climate controlled conditions since. I've had magical experiences with Mt Edelstone back to the early sixties vintages and I have no doubt there are going to be many, many more similar experiences especially considering the climate controlled cellaring.

Now, 1994 was the oddest vintage. Backward and elemental for 10 - 15 years, it then blossomed, as Michel indicated, a decade or so ago.

I'm not sure what the issue with Hunter's bottle is but brett and DMS have been alluded to by some commentators; and Henschke's own storage came into question over the issues with a % of the 98 release. I don't see the brett in 94 frankly, it seems to me to be typical shiraz in evolution with characteristics not dissimilar to the Northern Rhone. DMS was more a Cyril issue in 94 and I could sort of see it a bit, maybe, in 96 Mt Ed.

Anyways, 2 x six packs of 1994 Henschke Mt Edelstone left, unopened, climate controlled since release, I'll leave them go for long term enjoyment and with strict instructions never to be flogged off at auction if I pass. The secondary market is a joke in Australia, near parasitical, failing to reward great wines and great cellaring.
