You goose!! :) You should have turned up last night, I was having a great time there. You didn't drink the '03 PC to drown your sorrows I hope!

As you will see from above, I was bloody tempted.

At least you know the wine is ready to go :). Would've really been interesting if you had decanted it beforehand..haha..

Gladstone 02 for me. Sorry about the crazy late notice, I had no idea what was in the fridge until now.

Hey guys, I've woken up with a headache, fever and shakes so unless I show marked improvement I won't be coming. Will confirm by lunch but it is unlikely.

I'm thinking of voice recording some notes this time. Every tasting I go to, I try and write them but always get distracted.
I can then type them up once I'm home and sobered up.
I appreciate all forms of alcohol, as long as its wine.

MrsC79 has thrown her hand up to be a late inclusion for tonight's festivities if there is still room?

That would be great, even if mabys does pull together theres still that one more spot to take it to the originally planned 16.

Very sorry to do this folks but I'm coughing and sputtering this morning (and now very drugged up)... in the interests of not sharing it around tonight, I think it best if I stay away...

Need to open this wine soon though, thinking of arranging an NZ-themed offline in the new year if there's any interest out there.

And believe me I was half-tempted to taste it. If it was on a cleaner surface I probably would have risked death-by-tongue-splinter. :P

Hi all, definitely still coming, but just a question on glassware. If I only own average glassware, should I bring it along or will the restaurant provide standard offerings?

Thanks

Ok, Michelle's wine is a 2003 Domaine A, Coal River, Tasmania

Andrew, I think its part of a corkage negotiated deal(?), so best if you bring them along.

I would bring it along....I'm sure they'll let us use some glasses there if we need to...given we'll have 14-16 people and pretty much everyone else will have their own glasses, I don't think they'll mind letting us use two.....I wasn't under the impression we had to bring our own glasses, just that we always do...

Either way you'll end up being a Zalto convert...maybe..probably.. :)

Just confirming guys I won't be able to make it. I'm falling apart at work, only here because I am under the pump. Gonna try and head home early and feel miserable on the couch.

Sounds good here Tim,

I was bringing the 05 Petaluma to pair with your 98 to compare and contrast. Unsure if Bob would be happy to do a switcheroo - anyway, we can sort it all out when we get there.

Is anyone else bringing anything white?

Great, Great night! Cheers all.
I think Paul (Sav table) and I (Cab table) were the only ones taking notes so I'll try to get some up soon.
Paul, hope you remembered to rip off that bit of table cloth you were taking notes on. :)

I'll just leave these here for now....

Fantastic night, really cracking wines. Young, old and in between. Lots of regional typicity with something for everyone. From the 20+ year old wines that had no right to be so good (91 Wynns BL and 92 Pyrus) to the power and poise of the big hitter styles like Cullen, Jack Mann and Balnaves Tally to the sublime Pontet Canet. So many wines, so many good wines to boot, it makes me wonder why I’m not hunting down even more Cabernets. The 03 Domaine A was a surprise for me, really approachable and lovely to drink. The Riddoch was nice drinking. The 97 Rockford CabSav did well in representing the Barossa and won a few fans I hope. The Calon-Segur a nice counterpoint to the Cullen in a blind flight. I’ve missed a heap of wines, will need to see some pics to jog my memory.

Hackers champers was lovely as always, the man has a knack for picking out ones that tick all the boxes for me. (we have a very similar taste in champagnes) and the By Farr Viognier had lots of interest when we kicked things off. The Bests Riesling was nice also, very approachable even at a young age. Thanks to RedSmurf for the 75 Sauterne (Coutet?) which was a real treat and great way to finish off the evening.

Food was just right for me, lots of alcohol soaking up sized portions, done in a homely, familiar style. It really is a lovely place to enjoy your wines.

Great company and banter as always, sorry I didn’t get around to the other table apart from some brief forays, hope Andrewpc enjoyed the night and joins a few more outings.

Thanks to CK and TiggerK for the organising etc

Super night, thank you all! Looking forward to Greg's notes - the way he was writing down stuff it was as though he was doing a 2000 word essay :)

Too many WOTNs to have one best, but my favs were the Pontet Canet, the 2000 Cullen, Dave's Rockford, and the Gladstones. All of these were on the plusher, sweeter spectrum as opposed to, say the Tally and Wynns BL which were stricter with a (healthy) acid kick. I just have a sweet tooth!

Sorry I snuck out early, but I'm sure you'll be pleased  I qualified for tomorrow's 36 holes.
