TNR - 1998 Fox Creek JSM
Anyone has this oldie lately? I'm having a hard time finding recent tasting notes, though there are a few on Cellertracker. http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=2612. The recent notes are pretty succinct.

Re: TORBWINE
Interesting that I just posted a "where's Torn" thread on Wineberserkers.com stateside, and someone pointed me here. I'm glad to hear he's doing well. If you have more details on Ric's current whereabouts, I'd love to hear. By the way the Wineberserker thread: http://www.wineberserkers.com...

Newbie Question - How does Aussie Pinot Compare to US/French
I have been quaffing quite a bit of New Zealand and Australian pinots, and especially like the ones that are of the Burgundian style. Two of my favorites are Bindi from the Macedon Region and Melness from (I think) Waipara. What I don't understand, though, is while the very "pinot-like" ch...

TNR - "The Bitch" Grenache
Hello, all. I haven't been here in a while, but I got the following email offering today and was wondering if anyone could give me any insight into this wine -- is it one of those ubiquitous "FOR THE USA" wines, or do they swill this stuff Down Under? When I have questions about unknown Au...

I can tell you that I can walk across the street to the local grocery store and pick up at least five different Australian wines that I would consider "industrial swill." It is amazing to me how many wines that have been trying to follow in the steps of Yellow Tail. It seems that all you need on the...

Ric, taken from your article, "In an exchange of e-mails from a producer who (deservedly) did rather well, they said, ….. “Mmmmm lots of sour grapes from some who did not get a listing. Someone has just claimed that it is "totally impossible" to get higher than 90 for wine mad...

Re: How does the Aussie palate differ from the American pala
My idea of a "fruit bomb" is more like TORB's description, where the fruit is prominent, very ripe to overripe and dominates the wine, usually with high alcohol and soft, unobtrusive tannins. Interesting -- this IS how I would describe Dead Arm (except, maybe the "unobtrusive tannins" part). But a ...

How does the Aussie palate differ from the American palate?
I traded e-mails with Torb about this over the weekend, and I think this is a pretty interesting question. I personally believe that Americans (more than anyone) are driven by Robert Parker scores. Parker, of course, likes those big, super-extracted shiraz fruit bombs. Torb pointed out that a number...

Can the label refer to the wine as a "Bordeaux-style blend," or perhaps a "Rhone style blend?" There was big litigation in California a few months back when Fred Franzia (the king of Charles Shaw and boxed white zin fame) bought the Napa Ridge label and bottled up millions of gallons of non-Napa win...

I know that there are a number of factors that explain how wine prices are set internationally. For starters, the U.S. Dollar is pretty weak right now thanks to some loosey-goosey international monetary policy set by our government (along with tons of domestic spending), which certainly impacts the ...
