Re: Sep '11 purchases - what's new?

Turned left off the Pacific Highway on the way home from Sydney a couple of weeks ago (so not strictly September purchases) and quickly picked up: 2 x De Iuliis Charlie Shiraz 2009 4 x De Iuliis Steven Shiraz 2009 4 x Thomas Wines Sweetwater Shiraz 2009 2 x Meerea Park Alexander Munro Shiraz 2009 Gu...

Re: Recommend a large wine cabinet

I notice Kitchener also sell the CT series. I'm assuming that as these don't have the Peltier system that there is some (minimal?) vibration. Is this a major or minor issue? Or to put it in a practical sense, is it worth paying an extra $1,000 plus to buy the Peltier 252 over the CT 204 (forget the ...

Catching Thieves Cabernet Merlot 2007 I enjoyed this. A very approachable wine (I didn't give it much air) and good value at the price ($16). I did think it had started to fade on the second night? Seppelt Victoria Shiraz 2004 I picked up 6 bottles of this last year for about $12 a bottle. They wer...

We're in the final stages of building a house so wine purchases have been few and far between lately. However, I did "splash out" on some quaffers on the weekend: 4 x St Hallett Faith Shiraz 2006 4 x Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Red 2006 4 x Seppelt Victorian Shiraz 2004 The only one of these ...

On recent efforts, I would go for the Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Red 2006 at around $13 - $14. I opened a bottle of the Thorn Clarke Quartage 2006 this week and while I enjoyed it, the Scrubby rise gets the points for mine. Cheers, Jimmy ( edit: oops, just realised the question asked for best "sh...

St Peter's 2004 - As Good as the Hype?

I notice another wine merchant is currently selling this at a substantial discount, which is a very surprising (to me at least) for a wine that has had rave reviews. I am interested to know what other people's thoughts are on: 1. How good this wine actually is? 2. Why there is still some available g...

High Alcohol?

Last night I opened a bottle of 2004 Barossa Valley shiraz from a highly regarded producer which has been the subject of good reviews, not only by members of this forum but also reviewers such as Halliday and Mattinson (both of whom had scored the wine at 94 points). The wine seemed to be quite bala...

Wines I Should Be Trying in the US of A?

I'm heading to the States in October for a brief two week holiday (relative's wedding). I will be in Chicago for the first week and we're still to decide where we will be the second week. Although I suspect my beverage of choice for the trip will mostly be beer, can anyone point me in the right dire...

Better QPR than 2004 Seppelt Victorian Shiraz?

I tried the 2004 Seppelt Victorian Shiraz last week and thought it was excellent value at around $12 - $13.

Does anyone think there are many (any) wines out there that represent similar or better QPR at this price point?

Drinkability of two wines (Mount Langi Ghiran & Moet)??

Can anyone give me an idea if either of these two wines have the potential to still be enjoyed... Mount Langi Ghiran Billi Billi Creek Shiraz Grenache 1997 - given to me by my father at Christmas several years ago. Moet & Chandon Brut Imperial Champagne - purchased by my wife somewhere in Englan...

Retail Wine Stores in or near Sydney CBD?

I am making an all too rare trip to Sydney next week for work.

Can anyone please tell me where I should go to look for some wine to buy?

Preferably, it will be in or near Sydney CBD, have a wide selection of wines and be competitive on price.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Majella Cabernet 2003 - can I drink it now?

Well I know I can drink it now, but what I really want to know is this - is it possible to drink it now and actually enjoy it, or should I cellar it for some years before opening a bottle? I have read some good reviews for this wine and was contemplating opening a bottle over the festive season. Any...

A good shiraz or cab sauv to drink now (up to $60-70)?

It is my brother-in-law's birthday in a couple of months time and I want to buy a good bottle of shiraz or cab sauv to share with him when we go out for dinner to celebrate. I am still very much a novice when it comes to regularly buying and drinking wine and normally limit my purchases to under $20...

Adrian, My interest in wine is only a recent thing and I am reading as many things as possible to improve my knowledge. My short term goal is to know enough to give me a good chance of buying decent wines at decent prices (and nothing over $30 at this stage). Given my inexperience, one problem I do ...

Help Needed - Wine with Indian Food?

I am going out for dinner this weekend to an Indian restaurant. While my usual beverage of choice with Indian food is beer, I was wondering if there are any wines which can be enjoyed with this type of food? From the small number of articles I have read, I don't think I've ever come across a recomme...
