These are some of the wines I’ll be opening Saturday afternoon.
I thought a photo would be easier than writing them up.
Cheers Con.

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
Last night I opened another Joseph with my neighbours, just as good as the one opened on Saturday. They loved it too.
Thanks for note Alan, haven’t had a 94 for long time.
Hi Mike.
These older SSS have had mushroom notes for the last 10-15 years. I love these old wines.

Re: Wine Cellaring re-visted ( too much wine? )
I buy very little to cellar these days, I’ve actually reduced it by about 600 bottles in the last few years, down to about 1600 bottles. Ideally I’d like to get down to about 1200 bottles which will include about 400 bottles of Australian Fortified. The other thing is now is my cellar is a mess. Eve...

Re: The Top 5 Australian Wines, 2026 Edition
I agree with Grange and Hill of Grace for iconic status. Leeuwin Estate yes I’d say Australia’s best Chardonnay, haven’t had many lately but drank heaps from the mid 90s to around 2010 vintage. There’s a few Cabernets that could be up here but Moss Wood has been the most consistent in quality and e...

Re: October 2025 purchases
There is a Lindeman's 1940 Madeira floating around one of the auction houses. Think a bid of $200 still saw it passed in. Wonder if it's worth a punt or could be completely stuffed. Cheers Craig Hi Craig. I opened one of these maybe 10 years ago and it was stuffed so I haven’t looked at another one...

Yeah thanks Graig interesting read and these are the sort of posts that make me wish I was still buying.
My cellar is maybe down to about 60-70% from 3 or 4 years ago.
Still got a bottle of 1980 St George.
Cheers Con.

Went to Wantirna Estate a couple of Saturdays ago to pick up my annual mixed dozen and to try them and loved them. Been on mailing list since 1999 and the only wine I still buy, maybe a couple bottles of fortified now and then. 3 X 2024 Isabella - Chardonnay. 3 X 2023 Lily - Pinot. 4 X 2023 Amelia -...

Re: Cullens Greatest Hits
I’ve been a fan of Cullen for 25 years now, probably one of my favourite Aussie Cab’s is the 1995 vintage and there’s been a few that I’ve really enjoyed. I love Cabernet old so as they say each to their own. I’ve been meaning to do a Cullen vs Moss Wood tasting for while, maybe very soon. Cheers Con.

Hi Rossco.
Yeah mate it’s been a while, I’ll PM you my new number.
I’d love to catch up anytime anywhere.
I’ll probably do another tasting before Christmas.
Another thing with the Guigal and Gaja I was expecting a lot of oak but at the 20 year mark they seem to come together.
Cheers Con.

2005 Guigal and Gaja.
Hi All, it’s been a while. The Melbourne Auswine Crew got together on Saturday to look at the 2005 Guigal and Gaja, finished with an Amontillado. All wines were in climate control storage from release and showed really well. Really hard to pick winners and losers but I think the La Turque was the mo...

No bottles required but if anyone wants to bring a back up just in case. I don’t want to deal with swapping or selling, just have a good time. Also I’d like to prepare and double decant all the wine.
Cheers Con.

Wendouree Tasting - Melbourne..
Hi All. I propose a Wendouree Tasting mid to late September, any preferred dates? Venue TBA, cost around $120. We’ll probably need at least 8 of us to allow us to open this many bottles. I will put on all the following wines in serving brackets. I’ve always gone oldest to youngest but we’ll try the ...

Re: 2024 Wendouree Mailer
Hi All. Any interest in a mini Wendouree Shiraz vertical by the Melbourne group and any one available in Melbourne. I’d really like a good spread of vintages and not younger than 2010. If you only have young vintages I’m happy to swap for something older or don’t have any Wendouree at all and still ...

Re: The Aussie Fortified Thread…
I’ve had the 1945 Grandfather 4 or 5 times, last time maybe 10 years ago.
Very enjoyable and variable, it’s a sweet Tawny not very complex and the spirit pokes out a bit.
Not worth the asking price but a great 80th next year.
Cheers Con

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
Hi All. Been off the grid for while, drinking very little. Offloaded about 30 dozen bottles. Yesterday I cooked 50 day aged T Bone over charcoal, also made a few dips and my mums potato salad. Enjoyed a couple of glasses of 1979 Lakes Folly Dry Red. Still very much alive but well into tertiary stage...

Re: So what wines are on the Xmas menu this year?
Christmas Day was the usual lamb and chicken Gyro with a 1996 Chateau Reynell Basket Press Shiraz. A few days before Christmas we had a neighbourhood street party and opened the following. Poured myself a decent glass and passed it along. Started with 2014 Produttori del Barbaresco then 1980 Lake’s ...
