Mount Mary Lunch..

Post by Con J »

Most of the Melbourne Auswine Group and a couple of other guests got together to go through some old Mount Mary.

A few duds but overall a great day.

1991 Triolet - Too oxidised for me.
1999 Triolet - Drinking well, lovely.

1998 Chardonnay - Drinking well.
1999 Chardonnay - Too oxidised for me.

1988 Pinot Noir - Similar to the 2000, less fruity more developed.
2000 Pinot Noir - Raspberries, Strawberries, forest floor, balanced. Equal wine of the day for me.

1979 Quintet -
1985 Quintet -

1987 Quintet - Corked.
1988 Quintet - A bit leaner than I remember

1991 Quintet -
1996 Quintet - Equal wine of the day.

The Quintets very similar in style and holding up well, most if not all had a bit of Bret which I think a little bit adds complexity.

Cheers Con.

Awesome day. Thanks so much for providing the wines Con.

Highlights for me:
1999 Triolet
2000 Pinot Noir
1996 Quintet

The tasting again confirmed the greatness of Mount Mary. Great when young, even better when aged.
Life is too short to drink rubbish wine.

These are the grandest of events! I miss a weekly themed event my Hong Kong wine group does! I did a Mt Mary event years ago too. Didn’t run as deep as this but.

Well done chaps!

What a wonderful tasting experience Con. Shame about the faulty/dud ones, but wow what a line up!

I have always preferred the MM Triolet & Chardonnay over their reds for some reason, and the triolet can last for decades (especially now under screwcap!)

What is the last bottle in the line up? A liquor Muscat? - Was it any good ?

Is it a chateau yaldara liqueur muscat. Looks also like the old Kaiser Stuhl Kirsch Cherry Brandy that my parents used to drink in the 70s.
Cheers Craig
Tomorrow will be a good day
