Re: How has your cellar changed over time (and why or why not?)

My early cellaring was significantly more varied. A little of everything including many very old bottles from France and Italy. My original goal was to determine where my preferences fall. Five years ago, more or less, with the birth of my son, spendable income went down. So the rare old bottles sto...

Re: Which museum cellar?

Old world - Drc although Bartolo Mascarello, Conterno, Giacosa would be amazing.

McWilliams would be a good choice with the hopes of O’Shea’s, but I’d be happy with something like by Farr or Pipers Brook.

Re: Amorim technology produces corks with 'TCA risk equal to zero' by December 2020

A lot of this debate I’ve read similar opinions and have been drinking/researching trying to make a decision. One thing I haven’t seen discussed yet is semillon. I read that the change to screw cap saved producers 10-20% of the bottles oxidising before they left the building. Huge upside. I’ve had s...

Re: covid-19 lockdown and my wine buying madness

I’ve bought more than normal. My discipline was pretty good this year. However I don’t regret my purchases. I did the help a small winery thing, I did the taste a Barolo and buy a bunch, I also did the I’ll throw a couple of low ball bids on Langton and won many. Typical. There was one bottle I regr...

2014 Lucy Margaux Jaspers Vineyard Pinot noir. Sitting on the edge of gone or almost gone. Interesting aromas of earth and undergrowth but ultimately not great. Palate is the same. Drinkable but not wonderful. The second Lucy Margaux I’ve had recently that is gone or as good as. Buy again. No. I’m d...

Re: April 2020 Purchases

Picked up an 06 Piero Benevelli Barolo And a couple of other Barolos. Throwing my hat back in the ring after a couple of years of not buying piedmont’s wines. Also super happy with the deals at Único Zelo. I’m a big fan. I got 18 bottles with a focus of their Nebs, Nero’s and a couple of ambers and ...

Not sure if this over laps or misses some from the last post but nevermind. 2010 Pichler-Krutzler, Durnsteiner In Der Wand, Riesling, Wachau, Austria An imperfect bottle, not as good as the previous three. Simpler nose, more subtle. Minerals, honey, and stone fruits. Palate has a nice balance but ta...

Re: Who's missing from your cellar?

Due to three years ago having no money and drinking anything in the cellar that wasn’t rare. I had to restart the cellar process. This was a good opportunity. I rebought and focused on Areas that consistently produced wines in the style I like such as the Yarra or Tasmania and Pinot and chardonnay. ...

Re: Discovery of 2019

When I was introduced to wine I was always told how wonderful old Aussie Riesling was. And I agree it’s lovely. I kept buying older wine or late releases wines since. Last year I bought them young and I’ve found regions in which I much prefer them within their first year. Polish Hill is one of those...

Thank you all for the time you took. I made a decision and used my connection to replace my glasses with Riedel. I had a connection to their restaurant range which I’ve found to be nice to use and robust. Thanks again. Oh and if someone wants to pick up to some cab merlot glasses I’ve got six more t...

Hi all, After an impulsive purchase of a myriad of wine glass types I for the last five years have been happy with a Pinot glass, typical white wine glass and a Shiraz glass. Between those three types I can cater to what I commonly drink. My in-laws are living with us and now I have only a single wh...

Night at a friends 2014 St Mattius Sparkling Riesling, Tasmania Interesting wine. Nice dynamics and great with food. Not too sophisticated but nice to drink. NV GD Mumm, Champagne Similar to my previous thoughts. Not bad, but not memorable. 2016 Schawer, Meumer GG, Palfz, Germany Delicate nose of ch...

Re: Intro and question

Thank you for some interesting points of conversation. As mentioned I’m not invested in a particular outcome of people’s tastes. I like what I do and purchase based on my likes and my risk scales. For example I do really like some cab merlot blends such as Picardy’s. However for me to find one I rea...

Intro and question

Hey everyone, I have posted on here along time ago. I regularly read. Figured it’s time to post again. I have a cellar that consists Approx 40% Australian Pinot, mostly Yarra. I enjoy long aged pinots and have relatively lots of experience with 20 year plus aussie Pinot. The next 10% consists of red...

Guys there was no intention to cause controversy. I was hoping to get a dinner going with a couple of like minded people. I'm not interested in fuss. Just drinking good wine. With good people. Any mention of prices was to give an idea of what I intended. I wouldn't like someone to bring their $50000...

Hi guys. I'm glad to see a positive response in regards to Nebbiolo. My original idea is aimed to get a group of people who are interested and to a degree committed or passionate about Nebbiolo. My thoughts are along the lines that Barolo and barbaresco are expensive and thus we are better pooling r...
