Re: Leeuwin Art Series Cabernet - Aussie Mouton?
Agree with Cam and Michel. Mouton is over-rated. Can be hard and ungenerous. I'm not a Bordeaux guy but I've had found mature Mouton pretty good. Maybe it needs time? I don't take notes on my Bordeaux dinners so it may just be a take it or leave it attitude to that makes the wines welcoming. Felix?...

Re: Leeuwin Art Series Cabernet - Aussie Mouton?
Leeuwin Cabernet can be absolutely superb, but it genuinely needs 20 years to show it's stuff. Incredibly age-worthy wine, which in itself is a rarity amongst Australian wines. However, not in the same post code as Mouton. (no Australian cabernet-based wines are anywhere near that level, but apart f...

2005 La Croix de Gay
brilliant wine from this minor Chateau in Pomerol. Loads of blackberry fruit, violets and mint, with anise in the background. Great length, full of interest. A remarkable success for this house this year. Probably will still improve in the short term. 93+

hmm, might also be that Grosset rieslings are some-what over-rated.
Nice article in Winefront, covering a heap of rieslings from two excellent vintages... as is often the case, the Grossets were in the middle or towards the bottom of the pack.

you make some good points Michael, and I fully agree. why be nasty? well, to be brutally honest, I reckon said author did so deliberately knowing such a melodramatic critique would garner a lot more interest (and, therefore, eventually a lot more $$$$) than a "kind" one. I don't think Gord...

sitting in the lounge at HKIA waiting to fly to Geneva, off to ski in Val d'sere, and more importantly, escape the final 10 days of CNY lol. With my three bros, we have made a conscious decision to try many different varieties at night, and one bro has lugged up Jura, Cahors, Bergerac and many other...

yea, I last had that wine on my 40th birthday in 1998. Was past it then.
I guess the value reflects it's rarity these days, it would be pretty ordinary to drink imo.
also had the 58 Grange that night, also well past it.

Re: What's the plan for Xmas wine and food for 2015?
Christmas on the 24th mainly, as two of my sons fly out to NY and Toronto on Xmas day midday to be with their GF's for Xmas dinner. Lots of cold seafoods, then beef and turkey. All starts mid-afternoon after golf. Luckily, despite drought (they tell me) Royal Melbourne in top condition for my return...

Organic, and a beautifully balanced, fruit-coward red from Campania. Nuances of ash, dirt, red cherries, smoke and chocolate, this is an amazingly complex wine gunning way above it's price point. Drink: now-2025 90pts

mse, you can buy "Bordeaux" wines for as little as 1-2 euro. China is the largest importer of Bordeaux, with 95% of their imports being non-cru Classe. So I get exposed to an enormous amount of the cheap stuff at the obligatory work dinners over here. Most of it is pretty much undrinkable,...

Felix. I'm no expert, but I only see scores of around 87-89 for most wines from JCL then they jump to 95+ for Parker wines*.I'd be surprised if any of those wines pared with many Chinese dishes. Oh, I forgot, Bordeaux is the bed wine for Chinese food. Red for prosperity and health-giving properties...

haha, yea, MSE, that is one crap wine show, destined for the bin after one season for sure. Interesting to see people think that Bordeaux doesn't match with the majority of Chinese cuisine, IMO, it doesn't match with 50% of Chinese cuisine. The other 50% (let's call that 700 million meals a night) g...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
mse, Cho Lee is a really good critic, her palate is very much aligned with mine (easy on the eye too!!). You will generally see much lower scores than you see from the local Australian critics.... if she rates a wine 95, then is will be an earth-shattering experience. 90 from her would be, IMO, abou...
