Maxwell Ellen Street Shiraz 2009

Post by Waiters Friend »

I first came across Maxwell Wines back in 1995 when travelling through McLaren Vale. Both the Ellen St Shiraz and the Lime Cave Cabernet piqued my interest at the time, and I have had intermittent vintages since (including the fabulous 2002 Lime Cave in double magnum).

The 2009 is a deep red / purple in colour. The nose is typical McLaren Vale shiraz, with lots of vanillan oak, blueberries, mocha / milk chocolate, and fresh red plums - just starting to develop secondary characters as befits its age. The palate is rich, with dark luscious fruit over a velvety texture, and with chunky tannins in support. A full bodied shiraz with a correspondingly full finish.

I really must get more Ellen Streets.

Cheers
Allan

thanks Allan.
I discovered an Imperial of the Lime Cave 2002 in the cellar a couple of months ago. Nice to hear a positive report, I will keep it for a wedding in 2017.
