Re: What's your Wine Mismatch?
Went out to dinner with my partner and their family, and they told me to bring nice Champagne. I thought since they wanted something nice, yet were not wine drinkers, I figured Dom Perignon 2004 as I figured they would be familiar with the name since 'I've heard them mention Moet etc. in the past. I really enjoy the Rob Dolan True Colours Rose. I don't think it would be suitable for cellaring however.

Grosset "Springvale" Riesling 2013 ... Pure, crystalline fruit on the nose, some grapefruit, lime pith. In the mouth this has an expressive, floral character, finishing with a racy line of lingering acidity. Absolutely delicious now, I am sure will age well. Ah yes the Springvale...very m...

Don't worry Mr. Gillman, I'm sure Riesling will make its -big- comeback in 5 years time! Just in time when NZ Sauv Blanc will go out of fashion, right? Right? Oh wait, what's that? Pinot Gris from NZ has already started to take up where NZ Sauv Blanc is leaving? Oh drat, don't worry, Riesling will s...

Well, you'll either laugh, shake your head or do both with what I am about to write... My partner's brother has his 30th Birthday tonight at a nice BYO restaurant. As a birthday gift I decided to get a bottle of 2003 Dom Perignon and 2006 Penfolds Bin 389. The family are not wine drinkers, however t...

I had the Between 5 Bells Rose at Aria awhile ago when I tried their degustation...didn't think much of it to be honest, that is my opinion though. Did you mean Attica? Because thats where I saw it. Have always highly regarded Banjo and his selections, but never tried the 5 bells, so was intrigued....

I have always enjoyed Turkey Flat Rose. One of my 'Go to' summer wines. Perfect for sitting on the deck watching the sun go down. Last year i had a few Jansz N/V Rose`..... thoroughly enjoyed them, will have to buy some more this summer as well. (slightly OT) Has anyone had the Between 5 Bells Rose...

Hello, I have been in the Liquor Retail Industry for 10 years now with managing stores for 9 of those years. If you are looking to get into the wine side of things for career progression, retail speaking...DO NOT get a job with either Coles (First Choice, Liquorland, Vintage Cellars) or Woolworths (...

Taylors Quinta 1995 and 1998 half bottles represent excellent value for what they are...really nice with sticky date pudding! Perfect really...
Keen to try the Taylors 40 year old also.
I really enjoy fortified grenache...hard to find though.

Thanks for all the replies and tips. I don't want to sound close-minded but I really haven't enjoyed white wine yet. I guess I should keep trying though. We're talking wines that are nearly 50 years old and they are still a pleasure to drink. Not many other Aus labels have that track record.

Bishop Shiraz. Made by the same person that does Wallace (Ben Glaetzer). Full bodied Barossa style wi...

My first piece of advice would be for you to stop listening to your friend. Price does not equate to quality with wine! Ultimately, regardless of the wine, the Vintage and Terroir (where it comes from) will play a massive part in how well the wine will hold in the years to come. Some Vintages come t...
