Christmas Day Drinking

Post by Blesso »

All year I look forward to Christmas day, not for the food, or the presents....but the vino. My old man and my brother all enjoy nice wines and this day is when we take advantage to bring out those wines that otherwise you just cant bring yourself to opening.

This year we have got some cracking wines lined up for the extended family to share, we start the day off with a champagne breakfast with Louis Roederer and taittinger, then start decanting the reds, and this is what we are thinking of cracking;

2008 Wendouree cab/malbec
2004 Greenock Alices shiraz
1994 Grange
1996 Grange
1998 707
1998 the langi shiraz
1996 Rosemount mountain blue

And for the evening a little Bleasdale FORTIS ET ASTUTUS Tawny.

I'm sure other people out there share the same excuse to crack the good ones on chrissy day....what will yours be?

How do u follow up on that line up - do u need some extra siblings?
My brother is coming up so we'll drink well - probably lots of good sparklings including Rockford Black.
If you can remember what a wine is like the next day you didn't drink enough of it

There is only 1 prerequisite drink on Christmas Day at our place and that is Rockford Sparkling Black Shiraz. It's always been our go to celebration drink and probably always will be. Plus it's the wife's favourite drink.

As for the rest of the day, no plans at this stage. But I'm leaning towards a couple of Noon Eclipse's, as long as it isn't too hot in Sunny QLD! If the heat is too much then a few whites and plenty of Charles Melton Rose of Virginia.

Merry Christmas all and I hope Santa is good to everyone!

Cheers
Ian
If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

Probably a couple of PR NV
and then:
2002 Noble One
2007 Hospices de Beaune Corton Cuvee Docteur Peste Grand Cru Magnum that I've been holding onto for a bit too long.
2001 d'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz.

After that I'll probably end up opening some bottles I'll wish I hadn't when I wake up on boxing day.

1998 DeBortoli GS Reserve Yarra Shiraz
2006 Brown Brothers Orange Muscat and Flora (Kept this for awhile...keen to try)

Milan, don't worry its not like that every year, we just have a few nice ones lying around that needed a good excuse to open.

Dan, the 2001 Dead Arm is meant to be an absolute cracker, I've got a few 06, but have heard the 01 is sublime....enjoy

I bought a dozen of these on release because it was my wedding anniversary year and because of the massive score from RPJ. (forgive me, I'm not a points person anymore). This one will be my 4th out of the lot and so far they haven't really knocked my socks off, but I'm hoping for better things as it gets older.

Sorry to hear, half the problem with high scores can be it puts to much hype on the wine and builds to much expectation, then upon tasting it always seems not quite what you were expecting. I have not checked the score on the 06, but it tastes bloody good!
