Re: Wynnsday 2014

Hi Rens,

Sorry for a newbie's question: when you say

Re: Penfolds/ Vintec Deal

Yeah my Vintec from the first deal hasn't been brilliant for about a year now. Compressor making an awful racket. Switched it off in the end and reckoned that fixing it probably wouldn't be cost effective. I'll just go ahead and get another one now. Hopefully I don't get the melon this time. -- Geo...

Re: Penfolds/ Vintec Deal

Thanks for all the suggestions, I went and picked up 2 each of 9, 138, and St Henri. That's a bit above my original budget but it looks the St Henri 2010 could be good seeding bottles for the new fridge :-).

Cheers,
Don

Re: Penfolds/ Vintec Deal

I know people in this forum are not exactly the biggest Penfords fans, but what would you think are the best value for money buys to get the deal? BTW, I tried to look for clues from the AusWine website (would be happy to buy from here since Penfolds accepts online purchases), but I can't find any ...

Re: Penfolds/ Vintec Deal

I had a fridge from the last promotion. It works ok, except bubbles on some labels. Also gets a bit noisy but otherwise seems to be fine.

Considering getting another one, I think for $255 it's a pretty good deal and beats storing wines on shelfs.

Re: TN: The Penfolds Bin Series Releases at Magill Estate 8/

Thanks Ian for sharing the tasting notes. I'm a newbie in both wines and this forum (joined a year ago but then got distracted with other things in life), but I really enjoyed reading the wise words from you and everyone. Probably not much to contribute yet but silently I have learned a lot! Cheers,...

Re: July 2013 Purchases

12 x Teusner Riebke Shiraz 2012 (2010 was fantastic, should have bought more :-))
4 x Cullen Cab Merlot 2011
1 x Vasse Felix Cab Sauvignon 2010
1 x South Island Central Otego Pinot Noir 2012 (starting to try Pinot so figured I'd start at the lower price range)

Cheers,
Don

Re: Favourite $10-$15 big quaffing Shiraz or Cab.

My favourite is Teusner Riebke Shiraz and Balnaves The Blend. Living in Perth, I'm still looking for good Margaret River Cab at that price range.

Edit: Sorry I misread the price range (accessing using my phone so was a little blurry :-)), but still love to hear any suggestions.

Re: Buy new release or auction?

My preference is to buy new releases at between 15-40 while I'm learning more about wine, and my auction purchases are very much wines at the same price range. Yes I'm just not confident enough to buy anything over $100 at auction yet.

Re: April 2013 purchases for the cellar

Wish I was in Sydney... Where do you live? It's just a simple flight to Sydney! Oh... and then there is the accommodation thing. But it will be worth it. All that HOG that all the generous offliners will bring along will make it worth while. I'm sure it will be fantastic, unfortunately I'm in Perth...

This is a good idea! I'll get my people on to it! Perhaps late May?

Henschke Offline sounds like a great idea.

Re: Buy new release or auction?

Actually I've only just looked the online auctions, don't know about the physical ones at all. If anyone knows any physical auctions in Perth, I'd love to go have a look. Yes I'm a bit worried about the risk of wines being bad from auctions, so far I've bought a few back vintages and they are pretty...

Buy new release or auction?

Hi all, I'm new to wines and have been educating myself mostly from online sources like this forum. Gavin was very kind to let me sign up a while ago so here comes my first post. Having read some posts about buying from auction provides better value than new release in some cases, I'm just wondering...
