Re: My next pinot

I second everything Simon says! I too thought the Willowlake from Oakridge was excellent. Eldridge great, Ocean Eight very good. 2012 in Mornington is very good across the board.

Re: Forum Poll #2: Winery of the Year

I tried to think of a way to narrow down my choices and the formula I arrived at was: If a friend asked me which wine to buy at the local bottle shop; which brand, without me having to stipulate vintages, individual wines, etc could I tell them to seek out and know that he/she would be happy with pr...

Re: Pinot Noir

Wickhams Rd would fit the bill if you can find them still.

Bonus is you can get variety as they have them from different regions and $17.

Re: February 2013 Purchases

Getting into some French wine with 2009 chateau Citran. Not sure what it is - tannin profile, lack of alcohol or acidity but so easy to drink.
Also got a selection of the Wickham Rd Chardonnays and Pinots - all excellent at the price point.
Should probably change my name now too.

Pirathon and Woodcutters can be great. Teusner Riebke too. Really there are plenty of fruity, alcoholic choices. But for interest Brokenback is great as is Story if you can find it ( and Head Red) Hoddles creek all great Pewsey vale always great vfm but a lot of other Riesling is too Personally thin...

Re: Craggy Range Gimblett Gravels Syrah 08

Hi Ross,

As it happens I had this last week and was very impressed. Obviously still good structure but approachable with lovely fruit and a great change from the aussie shiraz I have had recently. Good wine to exhibit a point of difference. Wife loved it too.

Re: A quick look at some WA wineries

I too have just come back from Margaret River and felt that Voyager, while very impressive and imposing was a less interesting cellar door experience due to the wines being available everywhere and a bit of a production line tasting experience. They are all good quality obviously but I was more focu...

Re: Sunday drinking reports are due 28/8

Actually I might ask a wider question here: does anyone know any reliable mid-range Margaret River reds? I've not thought this through fully but it does occur to me that while there are some very serviceable quaffers and the high end is phenomenal, a lot of the $25-30ish reds aren't especially good...

I should probably change my log in now that the floods are behind us but I have been drinking my way through some of the flood damaged stcok I retrieved from Kennards and the wine I had tonight just blew me away. 2006 Samuels Gorge Shiraz. I have had a few 2006 shiraz from the Vale as it was one of ...

Re: NWR: Brisbane Floods

Thanks to Darryl and Sam for their comments. For me the biggest concern now is this comment: "We were advised that the mud in Milton was contaminated with chemicals and sewage." Based on the previous link posted with regards to e-coli and salmonella it would be critical to find someone to ...

Re: NWR: Brisbane Floods

Also interesting to note that there was no mention of power or aircon by Kennards until it was discussed on this and other fora. Until then they were saying they were waiting for generators to arrive from Victoria and then all of a sudden they say they have had one on site since Tuesday? I still don...

Re: NWR: Brisbane Floods

I would think there would be more than one lawyer with wine there! A couple of issues come to mind: Did they warn us the place was flood prone prior to taking our business? Why did they move the cellar to the ground floor? Why do they not have generators in Brisbane - if your business runs on the pr...

Re: NWR: Brisbane Floods

Yep, I have 60 cases in there as well and am losing faith daily. The water went 5cm into the top storage units so everything in the bottom two units will be affected. Plus of course they are all cooking. I think if we had got them out on Monday they would have been okay as the research I have been d...
