Agree with you Mike, the 09 Mt Ed is my wine of the year so far, loved it! With talk that the 2010 version is not all that cracked up to be im deciding whether i should go extra long on the 09's, having a mate work for lion nathan means i can get quite a good price on the mt ed's ... too many wines not enough $$$

Forgive me...last time i looked Henschke was family owned. Your mate at LN obviously has a mate who has a connection... "I give you carton of old block for a carton of Mt Ed". Good if you can get it

I didnt say it was owned by LN, they obviously have some connection with Henschke as they offer Henschke products at a reduced rate. Beyond the brands that LN do own, they also have discounts on many other brands that they dont.
Just did a quick google search, LN owns fine wines partners which has agreements with many wineries, Henschke being one of them.

Henschke is distributed in Australia by Fine Wine Partners, who are owned by Lion Nathan.

Not lurking but haven't been over to Australia for a while nor tasted any recent vintages. Interesting reading the comments though and I am looking forward to the outcome of the poll.

Anyway Henschke have been having a lend for about 2 decades now...a Mount Ed better than 2 St Peters, two Bests Bin 0, two Rockford BPs...i don't think so

Street price for Rockford BP is higher than Mount Ed, if you walk into a retail store. Vic shiraz doesn't have the same pulling power as SA shiraz, hence the pricing. If Seppelt could get away with selling St Peters for $110, they would be selling it at that price.

I tried to think of a way to narrow down my choices and the formula I arrived at was:

If a friend asked me which wine to buy at the local bottle shop; which brand, without me having to stipulate vintages, individual wines, etc could I tell them to seek out and know that he/she would be happy with pretty much anything they picked up. I obviously don't have a universal knowledge but from the wineries I am aware of that tick this box I would recommend:

1) Teusner
2) Voyager
3) Hoddles Creek

I'd take 1 Mt Ed over 4 St Peters or Bin 0!! 2 BPs are hard to beat though....
