Re: Your Wines of the Year
I tend to avoid the best ofs since the difference between 1st and 10th is often marginal, and is also highly coloured by whom I drank it with. Except for the Best Cellared I'll limit it to available still wines. Best White - Cardinham Estate 2003 Riesling. And yes still available, but only just. Bes...

Re: Which beer is perfect for the first time drinkers?
You lot are heathens when it comes to beer, but that's ok I'm a heathen when it comes to wine, but recommending Corona??? Would you drink cask wine? The fact you need to add lime to it to make it drinkable should tell you that it's CP. And I can't believe not one of you winos mentioned Saltram's, it...

Since this is a wine forum you're asking in the wrong place. Might I suggest http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/i ... owforum=22

Re: October what are you buying?
I just think that if they are selling them to the Kiwi's that cheap (even allowing for the exchange rate & different tax levels), why can't they sell it to their bread and butter market (Australia) at the same price.
Wine marketing rule #1: if the customer will pay more, then charge the...

Re: Which Tawny under $30.
To me the solution for aged rich port is get a port barrel! Honestly, a small barrel will 'age' the port significantly in under a year, you will be amazed how rich a mid weight tawny becomes in a short time. If you are serious about port, I suggest having both a 5L and 25L barrel, top up the smaller...

Re: same but different wine?
Upright or vertical storage won't have an impact with screwcap Actually, and this is slightly OT, storing screwcaps lying down may still be a good idea if only for the reason that a poor seal might be more evident due to wine leaking as opposed to air cycling which would be invisible. And to get ba...

wine TN app for Nokia?
Anyone know of a TN app for Nokia smartphones (5800 in my case)?
I can use just the notepad, but wouldn't mind something a bit more structured.

I would like to have the whole photo in without having to scoll, like the last 11 photos in this post. The photos aren't that big. Can someone help? The first set of photos are attachments uploaded to this forum. The last set are hosted on photobucket and linked via the [IMG]http://somelocation/pic...

Re: I NEED A MALO CHARDY, DESPERATE REALLY !
Not sure if it's cool to post to another forum thread but there's also some suggestions at; -removed to avoid conflicts- I didn't try all that was suggested but none of those I did try came close to what I want so I've pretty much given up. Instead I'll just drink more sparkling reds in the warmer m...

Re: Chris Ringland Shiraz
I don't wish to derail the thread so I would ask that we not degenerate it into a discussion of suppliers handling methods, and perhaps a new thread on this should be created if there isn't already one. But I will say that all good suppliers, particularly online ones, will have a return policy if yo...

Re: Chris Ringland Shiraz
Opened the 06. Too soon! Well not that it isn't bloody nice right now but it's got many many years left. This is better than the 08, but that might just be the 2 years more age. I'm not one to waffle on about flavours, but suffice to say if you like big wines, and I do, this is brilliant. Bit of sed...

Re: Chris Ringland Shiraz
I love it, I'm a sucker for huge wines. I've also got some 2007 which is a more mellow wine but needed a good 3 hours breathing, and a single 2006 which I am uncertain when to open.
I've been trying to find how to get on Chris's mailing list but to no avail.

Re: Barossa Valley unsuitable for shiraz?
"These wines appeal initially, but quickly pall with experience (and food)" Taste is subjective. After drinking barossa shiraz for more than 20 years, I completely disagree with that statement to the point that, apart from MacLaren Vale, nowhere produces a red wine I personally enjoy more....

Re: Best Shiraz and Riesling under $25
Kay Brothers 2005 Amery Shiraz is excellent VFM at $22 - if they have some US labelled left it's even better VFM. For me I though the 05 is best, then 04 and 06. Skillogalee 2006 BP Shiraz - just sqeeks in at $25 and last bottle I had was superbly good Battle of Bosworth 2008 Shiraz was very good an...

Re: Review of Current Full Range of Mike Press Wines
Having the Shiraz now. Agree with Gavin on the anise nose. After 2 glasses over 2 hours, with and without food, my view (which I think agrees somewhat with Adair's review), is that it's just not ready to be drunk yet - and I typically don't mind young wines. Everything is there though and there's no...

Re: Port Barrel leakage
FWIW my barrel developed some slow leaks but they sealed themselves as the port dried up around the leak. My barrel is only 25L so that might effect the leak pressure. Hmm, speaking of port I need to source some more, anyone got any tips in the greater Adelaide area? Seems a lot of wineries are not ...
