Thanks for the tips.
I'm thinking I might do 2 nights staying in the Barossa (including when the stage finishes there) and then 3 nights in town.
From there I can do another day trip.
Any tips for the Barossa that 2 young kids might enjoy (and me too!!)?

Advice on first real SA "tour including wine"...
...not quite a "wine tour". I'm going to be in Adelaide for a few days next January and want to know how I can best work some wine in. I'll have the family including young kids so it needs to be reasonably family friendly. The wine should be one of a few things to do, rather than the only ...

aaaarrrrgghhh, seems like I ALWAYS miss those things on special... $300 at Target, but most people know they do a 1/2 price sale a couple of times a year. (Except the people on eBay paying that much for 2nd hand...) Next person who sees Target with $150 Domes, please post back to this thread!!!! As ...

OK, let me clear a few things up! The issue is still under investigation by the company - so I'm waiting to see how it goes before I really pass judgement. The reason I spent $100 on a data logger in the first place is because my $15 eBay thermometer was giving high readings but I didn't really beli...

Offsite Storage - Major Trust Issues - Recommendations??
Hi, I currently use offsite storage in Melbourne. Let's just say I'm not happy. Sure the temperatures here have been above 40, BUT, that is no excuse for the temps I have logged. (See below) SO: Does anybody know of a good offsite storage place in Melbourne, preferably where you have independently v...

Lanton's Price Guide
Does the Langton's Price Guide include the buyer's premium? My impressions are that is does not, it seems to be an after the fact kind of thing. I suppose this is fairer because it is used to price both sides of the market... However for price checking a bottle I can get elsewhere, I assume I should...

Thanks for the advice everybody. The public part of the site is great when viewed from my phone. So that bodes well. Congrats to the developers for doing it properly. Still haven't coughed up for the subscription - getting it for my birthday, so will be able to report back then if the dynamic part k...

Oh come on, I am a newbie, but give me some credit. I actually thought of this the other night at DM, when they had all those cellar release wines out. Hmmm, 2000 of XYZ, never tried it, wonder what it's supposed to be like... It's amazing how often I use the internet connection on my phone for all ...

I am thinking of getting a subscription to Jeremy Oliver's site. Does anybody know if it renders well on a phone. I have an XHMTL browser on the phone, but some sites these days are so heavy or use so much AJAX that they just won't render properly. It would be great to have this info with me whereve...

Wine recommendations for a casual early lunch
Hi, I am looking for recommendations for a low key affair, where there may not be a lot of alcohol (early, kids etc) but want to have something available. We might have a beer (am I allowed to say that here?) but ideally I want a bottle of wine (or several) suited to the time and formality. I used t...

One off Cooling for a cellar
Hi, Those from Melbourne will know it's been a stinking hot summer. My "local" wine storage (the long term stuff is offsite) is in an insulated cupboard holding 20-30 bottles. It is pretty good at holding its temperature, however with the continued hot temperatures it got over 20 degrees r...

I am a newbie to all this, so go easy BUT: This thread is titled Screwcaps/Corks/Diams, yet all the discussion is cork v screwcap. Now to me, from what I know about Diam, it seems to be the perfect solution. No TCA, and yet still cork, so none of the (potential) problems of screwcaps. What is wrong ...

Wine Storage @ 19 Degrees
Sure, Melbourne hit 42 or thereabouts today. Pretty hot. But I still didn't expect to see my cellar at 19.3. (and with only 48% humidity). I went home and got my other thermometer to check. I have the photos. Should I name and shame the facility, or give them a chance to answer tomorrow? Whatever th...

Yeah, just outside Melbourne, so at least not automatic disqualification! As for convenience, this would only be for the stuff to forget for a year or two, then pull a few bottles and take it to Kennards. Thanks for the tips, will put the max/min down there next time. If I do insulate it, there woul...

Potential Wine Cellar - Great Conditions?
Have just been at the parents' holiday house. I was in the shed and I vaguely remembered that there was a trapdoor with some space underneath it. So I thought I would have a look. WOW!!!!!!! MASSIVE!!!!!!!! The cellar is probably a few metres across both ways and a couple of metres deep. There is a ...

Thanks for that, I understood the theory, just wanted to make sure what they looked like. From that photo, it looks as if they are still very cork-like but you could still tell they were Diam. In fact it probably matching my existing mental picture pretty well, (just corks made from treated little b...

Sorry for the newbie question, but how do I know if a cork is Diam from looking at it? I suppose I could check this list to see if the wine uses it, but does it LOOK any different? I had a wine the other day that had a plastic cork, but these seem to have been replaced by screwcaps, and it just got ...

I'm learning at the moment, and want to read up a bit. I was given a James Halliday book and want to read some of JO's tasting notes as well to branch out. Had a bottle of this the other night at a restaurant and loved it. Am now in the process of trying to track it down for my new cellar! Problem is I am not sure exactly what I had. I remembered it as Henschke Keyneton Estate 2003 Shiraz Cab Merlot. Now I see a bottle called Henschke Keyneton Estate E...
