I just loved how eccentric the whole experience was. Clearly the owner loves cooking but I suspect just can’t fund himself into a proper restaurant of his own so he cooks for locals in his little cafe each night.JamieAdelaide wrote: ↑Tue Oct 18, 2022 6:09 am I’m spending a lot of time in CBR so thanks Rooman. Re: Top Canberra restaurants which do BYO?
Hi, I was in Canberra a month ago and had a bizarre but highly enjoyable eight course degustation dinner at a small BYO cafe two locals took me to called VIIN in Pearce. During the day the owner who is Vietnamese but French trained runs an extremely low key unpretentious cafe selling coffees and cro...

It’s the current vintage, costs $20 and is showing its age. That means tangerine and earthy notes in the mid p...

...... this is why I do not buy any cabernet, shiraz or 'big" red under screw-cap. I have had this similar experience as often as I have had TCA'd wines sealed under cork. Love SC for whites, I am ambivalent but hopeful for pinot under SC, but no way does that seal work for big red wines. Give...

2010 Petaluma Coonawarra. This bottle was quite flat and uninviting. Gave very little away despite a 2+ hours Decant. Still quite a bit of cedar on the nose. Very thin palate....austere or stringent if you will. Lacking fruit and weight. Can help but thinking this was faulty in some way....dumb pha...

I have 3 of the Polish Hill and apparently 6 of the 2012 springvale .. all untouched I think. I suspect I will end up only a bit meh about Grosset riesling but I have a lot in the cellar to find out (the value is hard to resist for such benchmark wines, and I love the Gaia which is comparatively un...

Bouchard Baby Jesus 2005 - massive bouquet deep forest notes, the fruit is still tightly coiled around the tannins, not unpleasant but opened way to early. Could almost be a Bordeaux on a blind tasting. Won’t open another for 7-10 years at which time it should be a something pretty impressive.

Allan Based on one of the 2013 vintage I opened recently from my cellar, I would agree with your timeline. it really does seem that those wines take a considerable length of time to develop. The 2013 was pale greenish yellow with almost no secondary development. Unless driven by need, I can't see my...

Oh god, looking in my cellar i purchased 14 on release. Half s.c half cork. Too much shiraz  I did the same thing and picked up 3 6 packs when DM was selling it as around $65 pb. I know from a wine broker it’s trading over $200 at times. I always figured I’d sell 1 6pack to cover the other t...

I opened one of the Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard Riesling 2005 on Sunday to go chicken because it was sitting in the fridge. 1996 Penfolds 707 in the flight with the Jacaranda, this was certainly bettered. Nice polished wine, but too oaky for my palate, and a little clipped at the finish. No better than good to very good. 90pts 1996 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon another ripping Aussie Cab, drinking right at it's peak. Lov...

We finished with the 2004 Voyager Cab Merlot . Yum! Blackcurrant, dark plum, cigar box, length to burn. An absolute joy to drink, and transcends the previous two wines we had. This is close to the best cab I have had this year. Unanimous wine of the night. I think the Voyager Cab Merlots are seriou...

Having worked in the industry, the people who can afford to go out mid to early week are often quite different from those who go out on Friday and Saturday night. I walk around Bondi during the week and know which are BYO and those that aren't. Early in the week, restaurants like Brown Sugar, Pompe...

Sage advice. We pretty much avoid eating out for the very same reason - overpriced wine, and all far too young. After all our cellaring my better half and I can drink modest 15-20 year old wine from all over the world, whether Rioja, Chianti, or Cotes du Rhone, and because we stuck to reputable pro...

Hi Polymer I'm guessing this thread wouldn't have degenerated as it did, had you not started by saying "Don't buy to cellar". Whether intentionally or unintentionally, that was a provocative entrance to the thread, and it's influenced how this thread went. Maybe I'm missing something. Hav...
