Torzi Matthews - Frost dodger. Grab one

Guys,

tried the Torzi Matthews "Frost Dodger" shiraz a few weeks ago. From Eden Valley from memory. Excellent wine. I've bought a few since.

Less plum than McLaren Vale and has some nice Vanilla touches. Very drinkable....

I've been holding off getting this wine as I wasn't sure what it would be like. Been disappointed with some of the "upper" Orlando wines recently. Will pick up a few this weekend (will check to see if Gavin has any online as I'm just about to place an order)

I also tried the Amery over the weekend. First time I've tried Kay Brothers. A very solid performer. Nothing special but I really enjoyed it. Not too big. My father in law also enjoyed it (and the Murdock "The Merger", and my beer and my scotch)

Chook Block sounds brilliant, big call on the best wine ever had - you've obviously had some crackers, certainly Icon Lunch-wise. Speaking of heavy bottles, I spotted an older vintage Trevor Jones 99 Wild Witch Shiraz. It was so big, I almost mistook it for a magnum...! It was almost as heavy too. ...

Wolf Blass Grey Label Shiraz seemed pretty good when I had it after being decantered. Probably doesn't matter if decantered or just left to breathe though. The wine needs an hour or 2 to open (in my view)

we were going to a spanish BYO restaurant.. Lack of everything there except glasses. If i was at home I would have funnelled it through my sieve and into a decanter and thoroughly enjoyed the Mount Mary. Unfortunately we were at work and had no sieve or decanter to pour into and then back into the b...

Apologies for my tardiness here, I've been offline for a few weeks. (Ironically, due to workload...) It was an interesting start to the day, the cork on the 91 Mount Mary Quintets broke off half way through extraction. Luckily for us I'd asked the guy we prurchased it from if he thought the cork wou...

Icon wine lunch number 4

Salivation for what we feel is our greatest line up yet. The time has arrived for Icon Wine lunch number 4 (tomorrow - Friday). The line up is slightly different in approach with us feeling sentimental. 91 Mount Mary cabernet (AKA Quintet) - an ode to Dr John 04 Balnaves "The Tally" 03 Mos...

I have both the Cabernet and Shiraz Vinum. I can't go back to using others. For me the shiraz vinum really enhances the wine. The shape of the cabernet is probably more widely available in other brands so if you could only afford one set, get the Shiraz. Preference would be to suggest getting both C...

Icon lunch round 3

Another Icon lunch has been and gone. Another 2.5 hour sitting at a Spanish Tapas restaurant and 3 very merry guys leaving in the afternoon. We had the 2003 Cullen Diane Madeline and 2001 Magnum of Rockfords Basket press shiraz. I think the 2003 Cullen Cab Sauv Merlot was a victim of cork taint. It ...

We had the 2003 Cullen Diane Madeline and 2001 Magnum of Rockfords Basket press shiraz. I think the 2003 Cullen Cab Sauv Merlot was a victim of cork taint. It had a mildew smell and I'm sure was not reflective of how good this wine is. Unfortunately I don't think we had the Diane at its best.. The 2...

I usually throw in these for mixed dozens at Dan Murphys. You may wish to do a search on vintage notes as some do taste better depending on vintage. You are arriving back at a very good time to buy wine - so if all else fails, try your luck and just pick some you aren't 100% sure of as well. Tried l...

OK guys, another "smashing" success for icon lunch number 2.. Another spanish restaurant with great tapas food. This style helps us keep food coming out whilst we have the 3 bottles. For 3 people, ordering 11 dishes, it cost $119..! What a bargain. Ok to the wines (which cost considerably ...

I tried this wine on Friday night (unaware) and Sunday night. It was quite funny on Friday night, we went to a wine bar in Sydney called "deVine" and after our icon lunch earlier in the day were still "thirsty" for some quality wine. We'd had a few cleansing ales after the icon w...

In fairness D'Arenberg was, like everywhere else that Sunday, absolutely packed. Perhaps the staff were a little stressed anticipating the rush when you arrived. 2000 Vasse Felix Shiraz - I had this about 2 years ago and it was very impressive. Still is. It is a great wine. I found it had settled a lot more than when I had previously tasted the wine. My SA trip day 2

My wife and I went to SA for the June long weekend and had a great time overall. We are planning to go back in March so that we get to see some vineyard colours. Icon lunch round two

Folks, this Friday my two work colleagues and I will be participating in our 2nd Icon wine lunch. The first Icon wine lunch was absolutely marvellous (to borrow a saying) and I'm looking forward to this Friday. One thing we realised last time was we perhaps had the drinking order incorrect. We start...
