TN: Kay Brother Amery Hillside Shiraz 2004

Post by GRB »

Stuck in Melbourne for work, sitting in the hotel room so I may as well write up a note on this little gem that went with the pizza for dinner.

Deep red with just a hint of purple on the edge. On the nose is blood plums and black berries, chocolate and some sweet caramel oak from 2 years in US wood. Sticking the nose deeper into the glass reveals some cherries as well. The palate follows with cloves and other spices chocolate and more plummy mouth filling fruit. Nice balance goes with the fine tanins. Fruit in this is ripe but not over ripe leaving good length to finish it off. Another one on the list of winners from 04 in McLaren Vale.

I also tried the Amery over the weekend. First time I've tried Kay Brothers. A very solid performer. Nothing special but I really enjoyed it. Not too big. My father in law also enjoyed it (and the Murdock "The Merger", and my beer and my scotch)

John
