Best view and also very pretty winery is Audrey Wilkinson. Not your typical wine nerd sort of place but the view is stunning.
Tyrells and Thomas Allen are lovely cellar doors and very good wine

Re: Brisbane Offline - 21st April
Sounds like a good night was had even if not vinously geeked out. Indeed what shame to lose, seems to be the trend recently. Hang around for a couple years then reinvent yourself. As the customer we are always wanting to try the new place the days of the "regular" are gone. Must be very st...

I have been reading this post with mixed feelings. Very grateful to Gavin for doing it so long, hopeful that someone will step up but knowing full well it wouldn't be me. So thank you Gavin, very much appreciated for what you have done and provided, it really accelerated my growth and I would feel a...

Re: Sparkling/Champagne for the cellar
Thanks all, a bit to digest. I prefer the aged version of pretty much all other wine compared to their young equivalent. The secondary and tertiary characters are something I enjoy. However, I should not assume the same for Champagne or sparkling which could result in a very expensive disappointment...

Sparkling/Champagne for the cellar
Realising the cellar is very under represented by the bubbles and deciding to rectify that. Considering some grower champagnes like Pierre Peters, Franck Bonville, Andre Clouet etc but it seems the vintage options are a touch unaffordable, do the NVs cellar well and how long typically would one expe...

Re: Brisbane Offline - Sunday 29 August
What a great evening, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thanks to everyone for their generosity and even more so to Perry for being a fantastic host and incredible cook to boot. Every wine was fantastic and choosing a favourite nigh on impossible but if under duress and forced to choose only one then I'd...

Brisbane August offline
As per previous suggestions, would anyone be interested in an offline in Brisbane? Around the 17th, 18th 19th August? I will be in Brisbane and would love to get my wine on and share a couple of great bottles with the Brisbane crowd both regular or 1st timers. Venue to be determined - having been aw...

Was just thinking I should gauge interest in a Brisbane offline as I might be in Brisbane mid August and Rens has beaten me to the punch. Won't be able to make July but if there is interest for a second offline mid August perhaps I could set something up once I know my movements. Have fun for this o...

Re: Where to visit in Rioja.
Well, I did get to Rioja, but with my usual reluctance to book too much in advance I left it quite late and unbeknownst to me got lucky as it appears a large group canceled just before I started looking for accommodation. Anyways my luck did not hold with the winery visits as only C.V.N.E could fit ...

Thanks guys,
Really appreciate it, looks like I'll get two full days there. So should be enough to dip my toe in.
Any recommendations for good restaurants (any must do's for lunch or dinner)
Cheers

Hahahaha, I know exactly what you mean, apparently sweeter red is popular here. Again my limited knowledge of cyrillic is a problem (and Georgian writing is even harder) so it really is a lucky dip.

Georgian wine
Hi fellow imbiber's, I am looking for some advice on Georgian wine. I am living in Kazakhstan now and looking for some guidance in picking a good wine. Saperavi seems to be the standard variety though my very basic Cyrillic makes it hard to decipher the varietals. Does anyone have some good producer...

Re: NWR: Coffee Machines
My understanding is that bottled water (mineral water) has a high mineral content. The recommendation is too talk to coffee machine suppliers who should be able to point you to a filter supplier who should be able to help you out. I could recommend an online store in Aus, but no idea in the UK. I am...

Re: Screw caps
Very interesting discussion, I am learning heaps and loving the well thought out points of view. Firstly, I do not make purchasing decisions based on the closure, if I want the wine I get the wine. My questions is, what is the value/point of using cork and the wax over the top (I do like it as it do...

Re: Halliday's Book
I'd prefer it if i knew that a critic paid for the wine they scored. Would certainly remove most of the doubt for me. I realise a downside to this is that some wines would never get reviewed. Would be nice to break the symbiotic relationship between critics and producers.

Hi Luke, do I still need to let the restaurant know that I won't be able to attend or have you since confirmed numbers?
I don't want to knock a number off the list if I am not on it anymore.
Thanks

Luke,
Unfortunately I am now a doubtful starter, Lisa is flying back from a few weeks away on the evening of the 16th. I will confirm here when flights are booked and advise the restaurant accordingly.
Apologies.
