I have to put my two cents in and say I am also dissatisfied with JO's site on the basis it does not include a number of new wineries that I, and many people who contribute to this forum, are interested in. To me his site seems to be good for wineries that belong to the establishment. But it is not ...

Langmeil The Freedom Shiraz 2003

According to the Langmeil website, the 2003 "The Freedom" is now available at a cool $100 a bottle. Am I suffering from memory loss or is this is a dramatic price escalation on the 2002, which was more like $60-70? OK so the wine comes from some of the oldest vines around which wouldn't yield much e...

Seppelt new releases

I noticed yesterday that Randalls in Melbourne already has the 2005 Seppelt Drumborg Riesling ($25) and 2003 Benno Bendigo Shiraz ($50). Does $50 seem like a reasonable price for the Benno, and has anyone noticed it for sale elsewhere yet?

Peter Simic was quoted in the Albury Wodonga Border Mail as saying: “We are the buying guide for the major chains and supermarkets.” Are we therefore to take it that Dan Murphys etc read Winestate before deciding what to stock, and if a particular wine, or winery, is absent fro...

Why would you want to pay $25 to send your precious fortifieds every year to a magazine of dubious repute? If I were the wineries in question, Peter Simic's diatribe would have only confirmed my suspicions. It reeks of such heightened arrogance to assume that your magazine is so important that anyon...

Brown Brothers paying for fruit it doesn't take

Here's one I found interesting. Brown Brothers is reportedly paying some of its contracted growers to leave fruit on the vine or drop it on the ground. The figure of $800 a tonne is what has been quoted. A Browns spokeswoman has said the company would rather pay out its suppliers than go to the trou...

I agree with the others that it is not really accurate to single out Seppelt/Southcorp. It is customary to pay more at cellar door these days for wines produced by medium/larger companies. The price you pay for the 02 St Peters is really not that high, given the reputation of the label, the vintage ...

Andrew you've spoken before about a certain prediliction among show judges for cooler climate styles and I think you have also expressed a few misgivings about the physiological ripeness of the fruit that went in to some of these wines. Without intending to draw any parallels between your approach t...

Selling wine by auction

I'm just wondering if someone can advise me about selling some wine via an auction house. I have never done it before, but am thinking of doing so as I seem to have a little too much wine which I am not sure I will drink. So I was wondering, what kind of sellers commission would, for example, Langto...
